This obviously does not mean that the people of Zimbabwe remember their heroes and heroines and our defence forces only on these two days. The two days mark a climax of the people's deep appreciation of contributions made in the interest of Zimbabwe - contributions which are vivid in the minds of people all the time. In remembering our heroes and heroines, our citizens always recall past sacrifices, tribulations and triumphs and setbacks. The full compliment in the remembrance can only be achieved through individual commitment to rededicating ourselves to the goals of the revolutionary process that we set in motion. Efforts should be exerted to emulate the good deeds of those that died for our cause. The cause of Zimbabwean patriotism is constantly and persistently a call upon each one of us to take every moment as an opportunity to act in defence of our sovereignty, freedom, justice and independence. This call has been there every moment of our lives' since the attainment of independence. It will be constantly calling upon us to keep Zimbabwe's enemies at bay in all areas of human endeavour. Thus, while those who died for and in defence of our freedom and independence rest in peace, their memory within the minds of all the living is the motivating force for staunch loyalty to the nation and its -people. But what is the meaning of loyalty? Genuine loyalty dictates that citizens should think about what they can do for their country. Whatever their position may be, Zimbabweans can work hard for their nation's prosperity. This would be a practical way of paying tribute to our heroes. 0 ZIMBABWE NEWS JULY/AUGUST. 1993 Lied[ ~ ~ ~ ~ .- ,_ru!i~) .Y.
