Its focus on individual composers gives rise to creative cycles of their work, which has the effect of deepening audience appreciation of the music. LSO already went on a two-week tour of China’s most important concert halls back in 2011 and we are happy to welcome them once again here in Shanghai. Hailed for the natural ease of his conducting and the compelling insight of his musicianship, the conductor James Gaffigan continues to attract international attention and is one of the most outstanding American conductors working today. Praised by the Washington Post for combining “stagger- ing technical prowess, a sense of command and depth of expression,” pianist George Li possesses brilliant virtuosity and effortless grace far beyond his years. It will be an unforgettable experience to see the LSO, conduc- tor James Gaffigan and pianist George Li performing pieces together from Weber, Grieg and Dvorak on June 28 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre. Since 1983, he has been presenting books on architecture, design, typography, photography and social issues that impress with their consistently high design quality, always investigating thoroughly the best style and materials with his keen acumen. For Müller, a book is only special when he’s succeeded in harmonizing its content with its design, and both are good. Nothing would be worse that weak content concealed by good design. This shows his approach towards book design and book publishing. In addition, he is convinced that “there is no digital replacement in sight for the book and its comforting physicality, its formal variety and the sensuality of its perception. Feel free to walk around in his world of books, each created carefully by this book-specialist. Wonder how the book fits into our world today and which way it is trying to face in the future.
