PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GENEVA CAMERATA! "RAIN OF STARS" FOR THE 2015-2016 SEASON Monday 18 May 2015. At a press conference held this morning, Geneva Camerata’s General Manager, Céline Meyer, as well as its Music & Artistic Director, , revealed the ’s third season. For its 2015-2016 season, named “Rain of Stars”, the Geneva Camerata will welcome today’s most prestigious soloists, singers, and actors. With these celebrated artists, the orchestra will present more than forty concerts, in Switzerland as well as on various international tours that will bring the orchestra to France, England, Italy, Mexico, and China. Passionate about creating new bridges between different arts and cultures, the Geneva Camerata will feature a variety of innovative projects, bringing together Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, and World Music, as well as Jazz, Dance, Theatre, and Video Art. In Geneva, the orchestra will present its three “flagship” series: the Prestige Concerts, the Crazy Concerts, and the Family Concerts. In addition, the orchestra will appear at all four most important art festivals in Geneva, and will launch its first Residency at the Center For Arts, a ground-breaking new art space in the city. During the season, the Geneva Camerata will also present a variety of atypical art shows, such as “Musical Excursions” at the Museum of Art & History, and a “Marathon” in which more than fifty international artists of all fields will offer a series of multi-disciplinary shows, in one evening. The orchestra will also expand its charitable and outreach activities with numerous appearances in hospital, clinics, prisons, and shelters. THE PRESTIGE CONCERTS: FIVE UNIQUE EVENINGS WITH STARS Award-winning French actress Emmanuelle Béart, violinists Viktoria Mullova and Giuliano Carmignola, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, jazz pianist , “7273” Dance Company, as well as soprano Sandrine Piau, will all be part of the orchestra’s major concert series. THE CRAZY CONCERTS: CLASSICAL MEETS WORLD MUSIC Created for those who wish to experience the wildest and most cutting-edge shows, this series features surprising collaborations between Geneva Camerata’s musicians and renowned world music artists. This season’s performances will include encounters between Baroque and Afghan music, between medieval chants and Irish folk, as well as a surprising meeting between Johann Sebastian Bach and Rap music. THE FAMILY CONCERTS: ORIGINAL SHOWS FOR EVERYONE Conceived especially to share the magic and beauty of classical music with the young generation, this series will include interactive shows such as “The Magician’s Carnival”, “A trip with Asterix and Obelix”, and the much-awaited new opera for children “Queen of Frogs”, based on Rameau’s masterpiece “Platée”, accompanied by newly-designed puppets. TOURING: BETWEEN ITALY, FRANCE, ENGLAND, MEXICO AND CHINA Geneva Camerata’s new show “Balkan-Baroque!” with the clarinetist Gilad Harel will be launched this summer during a Swiss tour, before heading to various festivals in France and England. The orchestra will also perform a Baroque concert on period instruments at the prestigious Venice Centre for , before heading to Mexico and China with soloist Richard Galliano. During its French tour, the orchestra will also reunite with one of its beloved artistic partners, Jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson, for a concert at La Rochelle. THE GENEVA FESTIVALS: INNOVATIVE PROJECTS IN ATYPICAL VENUES Between a concert with countertenor Andreas Scholl at the City of Geneva Music Festival, a special tribute to Ligeti at the Archipel Festival, an encounter between music and video- art at the Antigel Festival, and a performance of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater accompanied by contemporary dance at the Carouge Spring Festival… The Geneva Camerata will appear in all the major arts festivals in the city, in a variety of spectacular venues, both indoors and outdoors. OTHER PERFORMANCES DURING THE SEASON A “Marathon” in the company of fifty international artists between Classical, Jazz, Electronics, Rock, Pop, Reggae, Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts; a “Musical Excursion” at the Art & History Museum featuring “Haydn & Friends”; a concert with the “Bird Singers” featuring voices of birds in music; and Purcell’s opera “King Arthur” in a new version for children...
