Eleganz trotz heißer Jahre
Das Chianti Classico erlebt gerade eine ganze Serie von guten bis exzellenten Jahrgängen - und seine Produzenten wissen die Möglichkeiten zu nutzen. Trotz den zweifellos erkennbaren Auswirkungen des Klimawandels, ungeachtet veränderter Reifebedingungen und im Durchschnitt merklich gestiegener Alkoholgrade, gelingen vielen von ihnen elegante und zugleich komplexe Weine in einer Anzahl und Güte, wie es sie bislang vielleicht noch nie gab in der Geschichte des Gebietes.
Besonders auffällig erscheint uns die Entwicklung bei den Gran Selezione. Die Befürchtungen, die Marcus Hofschuster vor einigen Jahren eingeführte neue Qualitätsspitze des Chianti Classico würde die Annata und die Riserva “kannibalisieren”, scheint sich nicht zu bestätigen. Noch wichtiger ist aber, wie die Winzer mit der neuen Kategorie umgehen. Immer öfter scheint sich das Bewusstsein durchzusetzen, dass sich Größe im Wein viel mehr durch Finesse definieren lässt als durch schiere Kraft und Konzentration. Auch wenn es die schweren Blockbuster gibt und wohl auch immer geben wird: Das Pendel schlägt derzeit in die andere Richtung aus.

Die Kritiken werden regelmäßig durch Gegenproben überprüft, die ebenfalls blind erfolgen. Die Weine werden nach dem internationalen 100-Punkte-Schema bewertet. Dabei werden in den Weinkritiken nur Weine mit mindestens 80 Punkten aufgenommen. Das Bewertungssystem wird bei wein.plus strenger angewandt als bei aktuellen Weinführern heute üblich.

Elegance despite hot years
Chianti Classico is currently experiencing a whole series of good to excellent vintages - and its producers know how to take advantage of the opportunities. Despite the undoubtedly discernible effects of climate change, despite changes in ripening conditions and a marked increase in average alcohol levels, many of them are producing elegant yet complex wines of a number and quality perhaps never before seen in the history of the area.
The development of the Gran Selezione seems particularly striking. The fears that the new quality Marcus Hofschuster peak of Chianti Classico, introduced a few years ago, would „cannibalize“ the Annata and the Riserva, do not seem to be confirmed. Even more important, however, is how the winemakers deal with the new category. More and more often, the awareness seems to prevail that greatness in wine can be defined much more by finesse than by sheer power and concentration. Even though the heavy blockbusters exist and will probably always exist: the pendulum is currently swinging in the other direction.
