It all began in May of 1927 when Philo Farnsworth transmitted television pictures as part of a prototypical television system . By 1947 an estimated 14,000 television sets were in the United States, and that number grew to 20,000,000 by 1953, which was also the year KBES (now KOBI) began service in the Rogue Valley . Southern Oregon Education Company (SOEC) was organized in 1972 as a noncommercial educational station and began broadcasting on KSYS on January 17th 1977, appropriately with Sesame Street . We extended service to the Klamath Basin in 1989, expanded coverage west of the Cascades with translators, and converted to HDTV as mandated by Congress in 2006 . We now offer three full-time channels of service over the air and via cable throughout our broadcast region . DirecTV and Dish only carry our SOPTV-PBS service . A group of visionary and committed community leaders felt southern Oregon would benefit from having its own educational television service and thanks to their efforts we are here today .     Bachelor Thesis Telling The True Story Queerbaiting, representation, and fan resistance in the BBC Sherlock fandom Suzanne Frenk 613191 Algemene Cultuurwetenschappen (Culture Studies) School of Humanities Tilburg University Supervisor: Dr. P. K. Varis Second Reader: Dr. I. E. L. Maly August 18, 2017 Synopsis In this thesis, I follow an online community on Tumblr revolving around a self- proclaimed conspiracy theory called TJLC. This group is part of the broader community of fans of the BBC TV show Sherlock, and is focused on ‘The Johnlock Conspiracy’: the belief that the two main characters of the show, John and Sherlock, are bisexual and gay, respectively, and will ultimately end up as a romantic couple, which would make Sherlock a mainstream TV show with explicit and positive LGBTQIA+ representation. This visibility is especially important to LGBTQIA+ individuals within the TJLC community, who want to see their identities more often and more accurately represented on television. The fact that the creators of Sherlock, as well as several of the actors in the show, are either part of the LGBTQIA+ community themselves or known supporters, works to further strengthen TJLC’ers’ trust in the inevitable unfolding of the story into a romantic plot. The fact that the TJLC community is based on a conspiracy theory not only makes it a remarkable example of fan culture, but has also led to many close readings of the show and its characters – from the textual level to symbolism to the musical score – on a level that can often be seen as close to academic. These pieces of so-called ‘meta’ have led to many predictions about the direction of the show, such as the strong belief that ‘Johnlock’ would become real in season four of the series.

    FALL 2002 29 Laughter and Ethnicity in John Leguizamo's One-Man Worlds Miriam M. Chirico John Leguizamo's life is the substance of his art. His unflinching and uncompromising look at his own life and the lives of those closest to him provides the basis for his one-man shows, Mambo Mouth, Spic-O-Rama, the Tony-nominated play Freak and Sexaholix...A Love Story. Leguizamo has stamped his stand-up comic style as a playwright and his energetic characterizations as an actor onto the Broadway stage and the Hollywood screen. As the first Latino performer ever to produce a one-man show on Broadway, he is a spokesperson for a minority culture that vies to be heard within a dominant Anglo-Saxon one, and his dramatic sketches are tinged with a political undercurrent that questions the status quo of race relations in America. Leguizamo never allows his content to become too cerebral or heavy, but instead manipulates the comic impulse to bring his characters to life, providing the audience a means of empathizing with these characters and understanding the social and political issues at stake. Nor are his characters stereotypical representations of race and gender, as sometimes occurs in comedy. Rather, as each character confides his or her story to the audience, the facade they have brazenly put forth begins to erode under their frank admissions of fears and doubts. His characters are earnest and quirky, and derive their appeal not only from the stories they tell but also from the vocal and physical skills Leguizamo brings to each character.

Hoher Besuch aus England: Der neue Newsletter kommt mal wieder et- Kinotechnikspezialist was unpünktlich in Ihren Briefkasten (ob Duncan bei Laser Hotline elektronisch oder in Papierform) geflattert. Und das nicht ohne Grund. Denn just als wir die aktuelle Ausgabe beenden wollten, gab es einen Überraschungsbesuch aus England. Duncan McGregor, seines Zeichens Chefvor- führer des berühmten Pictureville Cinema in Bradford, nutzte seinen Urlaub in Deutsch- land zu einer Stippvisite bei der Laser Hotline in Korntal. Eigentlich logisch, dass es da nicht nur bei einer Stippvisite blieb, wo man sich doch soviel Neues aus der Welt des Films im Speziellen und der Kinotechnik im Besonderen zu erzählen hatte. Und unser Heimkino hatte es ihm ganz offensichtlich angetan. Der Sound gefiel dem Spezialisten so gut, dass er immer mehr sehen und vor allem hören wollte. Dieser Wunsch wurde ihm natürlich nicht verweigert. So kam es, dass der Newsletter etwas auf der Strecke blieb.
