Movies not only provide entertainment to the large audiences but also play some additional roles. The message provided by this medium is more impactful than any other medium because of its reach and easy accessibility. The content provided by the Indian films plays an important role in shaping up its audience. After, reviewing some of the movies, the researcher found a consistent theme of violence in almost all the films and found it important to share it with larger audience. Indian film industry produces more than 800 films annually and almost story line of all the movies is weaved around love, revenge, mafia wars and all this is supported by heavy dose of violence. Critics say that the Indian cinema nowadays is churning out films with persistent theme of violence because of the transplantation of the western ideas resulting in the portrayal of extreme vulgarity on big screen. Film makers follow the steps of Hollywood where most of the movies are much more violent than the bollywood. Movies released in the last few years have seen a continuous increase in the portrayal of violence both in content and subject wise. Keywords: Film violence; Bollywood; Movies. Chapter 6: India Subhash Kak Our understanding of archaeoastronomical sites in India is based not only on a rich archaeological record and texts that go back thousands of years, but also on a living tradition that is connected to the past. Conversely, India has much cultural diversity and a tangled history of interactions with neighbouring regions that make the story complex. The texts reveal to us the cosmological ideas that lay behind astronomical sites in the historical period and it is generally accepted that the same ideas also apply as far back as the Harappan era of the third millennium BC. In the historical period, astronomical observatories were part of temple complexes where the king was consecrated. Such consecration served to confirm the king as the foremost devotee of the chosen deity, who was taken to be the embodiment of time and the universe. For example, Udayagiri, located a few km from Vidisha in central India, is an astronomical site connected with the Classical age of the Gupta dynasty (320–500 AD). The imperial Guptas enlarged the site, an ancient hilly observatory going back at least to the 2nd century BC, at which observations were facilitated by the geographical features of the hill, into a sacred landscape to represent royal authority. Indian astronomy is characterised by the concept of ages of successively longer durations, which is itself an instance of the pervasive general idea of recursion, or repetition of patterns across space, scale and time. An example of this is the division of the ecliptic into 27 star segments ( nakshatras ), with which the moon is conjoined in its monthly circuit; each of these segments is further divided into 27 sub-segments ( upa-nakshatras ), and the successive divisions of the day into smaller measures of 30 units. -

Education Bringing Magic Into Interpretation What is an Interpreter? William Penn Mott, Jr I am constantly being asked, "what is an inter Director, National preter?" To get a definition, I consulted the dic Park Service tionary which defines an interpreter as, "One that interprets." That's passing the buck. I then looked up the word interpret and found it defined as, "To explain or tell the meaning of; present in understandable terms." I can agree that an inter preter should be able to explain or tell the mean ing of the subject under discussion and do so in Interpretation understandable terms, but I expect a great deal more from our interpreters. First, they should be professionally trained, en thusiastic, creative, flexible, and be able to com municate to people at all age levels. Secondly, I believe that a good interpreter should become very knowledgeable about a particular sub ject around which he or she can create a unique program that is his or hers alone, and which reflects that person's personality. Thirdly, I want our interpreters to use whatever special talents they may possess in the field of music, drama, puppetry, magic, dance, etc., to en rich and create new and exciting interpretive programs. Interpretation has been, and must always be, the hallmark of the National Park Service. An interpreter can be an entertainer, but of greater importance is his or her ability to be an educator utilizing the captivating environment of a national park so as to stimulate interest in, and respect for, the wonders of nature and the interest ing and exciting heritage of this country. -

Now owned by Coca-Cola India Status:Market share is a much disputed subject in the cola industry—yet some insiders, who claim to be in the know, say that Thums Up accounted for 50 million of the 550 million cases sold in the carbonated drinks segment in 2007, and the brand is the largest selling cola in India, with a share larger than that of Coca-Cola and Pepsi Brand story: Thums Up was launched by Parle Agro Pvt. Ltd to fill the void left by the government ban on American soft drinks giant Coca-Cola in the 1970s. The thumbs-up logo was adopted early on, but the brand was positioned differently then. “Thums Up was earlier positioned as a refreshing cola, with slogans such as Thums Up Makes it Great and Happy Days are here Again. It was post-1996 that the brand moved towards a more individualistic, masculine positioning,” says Kashmira Chadha, director of marketing at Coca-Cola. Things changed post liberalization, when Thums Up faced stiff competition from Pepsi and Coke. After a tough fight, the Chauhan brothers, owners of Parle Agro, finally sold Thums Up to Coca-Cola. Though Thums Up enjoyed a market share of around 30% at the time, Coca-Cola focused all its energy on promoting the Coke brand. “Any outsider will not be able to fathom the equity that the brand Thums Up enjoys among its target group.
