NATIONAL NIGHT OUT On Tuesday, August 3rd, Maple Grove, along with over 16,000 communities nationwide, will be celebrating National Night Out. We invite you to join forces with the Police Department and unite against crime. You’re invited to host a block party in your own neighborhood during the evening. These parties are a great way to get to know your neighbors, have fun and receive a visit by Maple Grove Police or Fire personnel. To register your neighborhood and receive planning information please contact Maple Grove Police Crime Prevention at 763-494-6134 or [email protected]. In the past, we would traditionally host a Kick-Off event from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Community Center, but that portion of our National Night Out activities is still undecided pending COVID restrictions.

MAPLE GROVE MOMENTS PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Grab your cameras Maple Grove! The city’s annual photography contest is a great way to highlight how special our community is. Contest runs June 1 through noon on July 13, Maple Grove residents are invited to submit their photographs through a special link on the city website (maplegrovemn.gov). All photos must be taken in Maple Grove. Photographers can focus their lens on the following categories and submit up to 12 entries total. • Going Together, • Going Natural , • Going Wild , • Going Places, • Youth (under age 18) Photographs submitted are posted on the City of Maple Grove website, and all are eligible to be featured in citywide communications. First, second, and third place monetary prizes are awarded in each category as well as one viewer’s choice winner. Adaptive Recreation REACH for RESOURCES ADAPTIVE RECREATION The adaptive recreation program is a cooperative effort of REACH for Resources and the cities of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Golden Valley, Plymouth, Maple Grove, Chanhassen, Chaska, Waconia and St. Louis Park. REACH is an agency which serves individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in Western Hennepin County. Services include adaptive recreation, independent living support and counseling. For information and registration procedures, call 952-200-3030. WEAVER LAKE COMMUNITY PARK & BEACH 8401 Dunkirk Lane This 80-acre park offers a free, lifeguarded beach and restrooms, two parking areas for 300 cars, four tennis courts, three ballfields, two playgrounds, one basketball and two volleyball courts, trails, a shaded picnic area and a picnic pavilion. Beach hours are: Dates: Saturday, June 5 - Sunday, August 15, 2021 Hours: Daily, 12:00 noon - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2021, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Swimming is allowed only when lifeguards are on duty. If you are planning to bring a group of 50 or more persons to the beach, please call 763-494-6500 to assure that adequate lifeguards are on duty. Beach may be closed in inclement weather. There is no charge for parking. No alcoholic beverages or tobacco are allowed in the park. Pets are alllowed on walking paths only; not on the beach, grassy areas nor playground, please.

T-BALL FOR AGES 5 & 6 Each T-Ball team will be made up of an approximately 10 children with a max of 15 and two volunteer coaches. VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED! 2 Volunteer parent coaches are needed for each team. Please select “yes” when you register if you are interested in being a coach for your child’s team. We will have a coordinator on site to help but need some parents to execute the practice plans each day.

The first 2 weeks will be practices. The following 4 weeks will be a combination of games and practices with a minimum of 4 games. Program days of the week stay consistent! Game times will be either at your scheduled practice time or 6:10pm. Schedules will be handed out the first day of practice. We will end the season with a parent/child game and participation medals. New dry fit jerseys are included. Bring a water bottle to class each day and wear tennis shoes. Team pictures will take place the 2nd week of practice. MAPLE GROVE YOUTH CHEER PROGRAM Grades 1 - 8 This is a youth competitive cheer program which includes high level instruction in tumbling, dance, stunting, cheer and performance skills. Choreography combining all of these facets will be taught to create a competitive routine. Three competitive team levels will be offered. Elementary Crimson is offered to beginning level athletes and athletes in grades 1-3. Elementary Gold will be offered to athletes with demonstrated skills in gymnastics, stunting, and competitive cheer or dance and athletes in grades 4 & 5. The Middle School team will be offered to athletes with a high level of previous skills shown and athletes in grades 6-8. It is up to coaches discretion to place athletes in levels as they best see fit, regardless of grade level. Each team will compete their fun and action-packed routine at four to five local cheer competitions. Program costs cover seven months of coaching instruction, competition fees to local events, a practice uniform and bow. Competition uniform and shoes are not included. PICKLEBALL - OUTDOORS As soon as the weather allows, usually end of April, pickleball will move from the gyms to the outside courts. Styles of Play: • Dedicated Play (Individual Play) –Court schedules identified as ‘Dedicated Play’ are first come first served, allowing for single person practice, singles play (2 people playing), or a dedicated group only playing amongst themselves. Players must provide their own equipment. Courts should be released on the hour if players are waiting.

• Open Play (Drop in Community Play) - Court schedules identified as ‘Open Play’ provide drop in participation, where players are cycled into games allowing for different partners and different opponents each game. This type of play welcomes single players or couples, since players are mixed after each game. Players must provide their own equipment to play. Upon arrival to the courts, place your paddle at the end of the line. When a game is finished, all 4 players come off the court and the next 4 players waiting in line begin play on the vacated court. The players that just came off the court place their paddles at the end of the line, to wait their next turn. This cycle continues through the scheduled Open Play hours.

Doug has published 14 books all about Minnesota. His full-time job for two decades has been traveling all around the state of Minnesota sharing his historic, interactive presentations. It's an AMAZING fun time for children ages 12 and under. Start on the first level by climbing the rock wall, hopping on the pogo stick or enter the tree house and climb to the second level. Four slides entice children to keep crawling back up to discover new routes to slide down, long tubes to push through and hover rings to crawl over. The toddler area for three years and under lets them crawl into a lion's mouth and back down a slide to venture on to a molded alligator, hippo and more. The American Red Cross offers six comprehensive course levels that teach anyone 18 months through adult to be safe in, on and around water. The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of the skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisite. Each level of Learn to Swim includes training in basic water safety and helping a swimmer in distress, in addition to swim skills. Exit skills are a combination of skills learned. Instructors will be checking skills the first day of class to confirm that swimmers are placed in the appropriate class. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Adrienne Vassar, 763-494-6493. Lessons missed by students will NOT be made up. You can purchase a cap for $2.00 and goggles for $6.00 from the Pool Supervisor.
