These services are designed for victim-centered focus from moment of first contact through trauma resolution. These vital services are accessible to all citizens in a community. Jack Halberstam Currents: Feminist Key Concepts and Controversies Trigger Happy: From Content Warning to Censorship rigger warnings have become standard fare on some college campuses T over the past few years. But they have also been the occasion for in- tense debates about pedagogy, classroom conduct, the use of me- dia in the classroom, and the nature of trauma. In general terms, a trigger warning is a cautionary note that may be added to syllabi or online sites to alert readers, students, or casual browsers about violent or sexually ex- plicit images and text in the materials on a site, in a course reader, or up ahead in a blind chain of Internet clicks. The trigger warning could easily be read simply as a protocol proper to new media forms in the early twenty-first century. However, because the call for trigger warnings on col- lege campuses coincided with new sets of regulations around sexual inter- actions, sexual assault, and teacher-student relationships, they have instead become a site for dynamic and often polemical debates about censorship, exposure, sensitivity, and the politics of discomfort. In this short piece I want to explore the function of the trigger warning and the import of the debates to which it gave rise. I will begin with two examples of college campuses where students in- troduced requests for classroom policy changes around syllabi and trigger warnings. In the first example, in 2012 Oberlin College, a small liberal arts school in Ohio known for its eclectic students and social justice agendas, circulated an online guide intended to help professors to avoid assigning and presenting potentially “triggering” material in their classrooms.1 As numer- ous articles commented, most professors in 2012 had never heard of trig- ger warnings, let alone Tumblr sites (where trigger warnings were popular- ized and proliferated), and were not opposed to them so much as ignorant of their purpose. -

Intimate Femicide: An Ecological Analysis KAREN STOUT University of Houston Graduate School of Social Work This research identifies the killing of women by male partners as a mul- tidimensional problem and, through empirical analysis, identifies rela- tionships between intimate femicide and individual, family, community services, state status of women, and violence against women factors. The conceptual base follows an ecological framework. Individual demographic and situationalfactors are presented. The findings of the study indicate that factors within each of the ecological settings are associated with intimate femicide. An implication of this exploratory study is that inti- mate femicide is related to a number of state factors, including factors associated with gender inequality in a state. Introduction Drawing upon an ecological framework and upon a broad range of social work, psychological, criminological, sociologi- cal, and feminist scholarship on violence against women, this study examines factors within ecological settings which may be associated with the killing of women by male intimate part- ners. -

As a training coordinator, I learned how to write lesson plans and provide training to those in the field using practical techniques that gave them a better understanding of what it means to work in collaboration with direct service providers to ensure that these cases are handled with proficiency while taking the needs of the victim into consideration. I teach civilian and military sexual assault response professionals how to support and protect victims to enable them to make it through the process. As a sexual assault response coordinator, I am responsible for managing the sexual assault prevention and response program for a military command. Part of my responsibilities include drafting reports and developing training curriculums for the command. As the SARC I am responsible for managing the Commander’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program to include management of uniformed victim advocates, management of victim care, drafting reports, policy letters, and written standard operating procedures for the command. I also create training modules to fulfill uniformed victim advocates continuing education requirement as well as service member’s annual requirements. -

UK Center for Research on Violence Against Women A key mission of the Center for Research on Violence Against Women is to ensure that the findings of quality research make it into the hands of advocates. This translation of research to practice ensures that science has an impact on the lives of women and children. In 2010 the Center for Research on Violence Against Women conducted a survey with over 100 rape crisis and domestic violence advocates in Kentucky about what they needed to know from research to help them do their jobs. Advocates identified ten top issues. A series of ten briefs were prepared by the Center to answer the Top Ten Things Advocates Need to Know. Top ten things advocates need to know 1. What services do survivors of rape find most helpful, and what help do they say they need? 2. What type of sex offender is most likely to recommit their crimes? Incest offenders, rapists, or pedophiles? 3. What mental health issues are caused by experiencing intimate partner violence or sexual assault? 4. Do protective orders work? Who violates protective orders the most? 5. What is the impact of mandatory arrest laws on intimate partner violence victims and offenders? 6. What are the most significant long-term health consequences of chronic sexual or physical violence? 7. What percentage of rape cases gets prosecuted? What are the rates of conviction? 8. Does treatment with intimate partner violence offenders work? 9. Does a report of intimate partner violence or sexual assault by a partner put a woman at risk of losing custody of her children? 10. -

Domestic Violence in Maryland WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE? Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically.
