We are looking to appoint a Boarding Health and Well-being Led to work with the boarding students at our vibrant and exciting international boarding house. Barton Hill House is a popular and successful international boarding facility for 11-18, set in the beautiful and historic Dorset town of Shaftesbury. There are currently around 1000 students on our roll at the school 67 whom are boarders. We have boarders from many corners of the globe including Spain, Germany and Hong Kong. The role is very diverse and the ideal candidate will demonstrate a warm personality, tolerant nature and an interest in the wellbeing and development of young people. This role would suit someone with an empathetic, caring person from a medical background, although formal qualification are not necessary. The mental health and wellbeing of young people is vital and we are a looking for someone who understands young people, their needs, challenges and how to support them. You will need to develop awareness, coping strategies and lead on well-being programs to address young people's needs with regards of mental health and wellbeing. The role is also to serve as a member of the house staff team supporting the senior member of staff on duty in the care and wellbeing of the boarders and the main responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to: Assisting with a system of support, monitoring, evaluation and progression of all pastoral matters concerning the boarders. Sustaining and developing the boarding activities, events and trip programme and supporting other staff with activities, event planning and running activities. Taking responsibility for the safety, security, behaviour and welfare of the boarders, when on duty Mentoring students, recording conversations, contacting parents and supervising visitors. Any other duties to ensure the safe and secure running of the boarding house. Our latest Ofsted inspection judged for Barton Hill House was ‘good’, with Shaftesbury School being judged as ‘good’ with outstanding features as well. The last SIAMS inspection was also graded as ‘good’. The role is extremely demanding and the ideal candidate will have relevant experience in working with teenagers, preferably in a residential setting. The candidate will hopefully have a D1 minibus licence or the ability to obtain one quickly and must show a commitment to safeguarding and children’s welfare. This is a full-time role and is a mixture of mornings, afternoons, overnights and weekends. This role is also available as a live-in position and a one-bed flat, inclusive of utilities is available for the right candidate. It would be preferable if the successful candidate would live on site in a self-contained one bed flat which is available. Rent and all utility costs including council tax are covered by the Trust. Shaftesbury school joined the Sherborne Area Schools’ Trust on 1 July this year alongside three other local primary schools. The trust now has over 5000 students and 850 staff working across 17 schools – 4 secondary and 13 primary. At the heart of the trust is the desire to work in partnership, to collaborate with others and to be outward facing for the benefit of children and staff.
