This requires all hands on deck to complete. We have a lot of things in the shed.Please plan to come spend a couple hours to help inventory and inspect the equipment that is used for the benefit of everyone in the Barony. Fighters and rapier, the fighting Eric has to be inventoried. Archers: we have targets and netting to check. Tents need to be inspected and ropes repaired. Cooking and serving equipment has to be checked. We have a LOT of stuff in the shed. Many hands make light work. We need your help to do this. 6-8 people is NOT ENOUGH to accomplish this monumental task. Gaelan - Outgoing Baronial quartermaster Financial Committee The Financial Committe must have as initial members: Exchequer, Deputy Exchequer, Seneschal, and Baronage. Those who have made it known that they would like to be included are: Nikulai Ivanovich, Manus Macdhai, Gwenhwyfar Weale and Gaelen Ma Cuinnega'in. Lady Gwenhwyfar has recommended using Google Docs to create an outline that can be shared and information added. We currently only have one section that needs to be done so it complies with Kingdom but it's a good time to go over the whole document. 4 The Windlore November 2019 Polling November 2nd is the deadline for Letters of Intent to be submitted to either the Baronial Seneschal (Jack/Fett) or Rowan of Hawkwood. November 4th - these letters will be forwarded on to Their Majesties and the Regional Seneschal. The default voting method will be paper if you do not choose the option to vote electronically. In both cases, please ensure: your memebership is current and your name and address are correct. November 16th - Their Majesties will provide approval for candidates. November 23rd - the Baronial Seneschal will publish this information. December 7th - paper polling ballots will go out and need to be returned by December 28th. There will be an attempt at a "Round Table" to meet the candidates at the next meeting. You an also visit [email protected] Unevent December 7th in Waldorf, MD - Dunn Carraig is hosting. 5 The Windlore November 2019 Canton and Officer Reports Exchequer Report Balance: $17,894.83 Allocated: Baronage $50 Emergency $500 Ymir $8,768 Total Allocated: $9,318 Total Unallocated: $8,576.83 Webminister There don't seem to be any problems but whatever is listed on the canton webpage is presumed correct. Chatelaine We had 14 newcomer's this month, mostly transfers. NCMA demo is set for May 30th. MoAS We played with some silk painting. December - period gingerbread with Lady Geneviefve d'Estelle. January - Lady Benetessa - Turn your hobby into a small business. Add a subheading Knight Marshal There is no Marshal at Large. You are either a Canton Marshal or a Baronial Assistant. Turn in your reports. Archery Marshal Running a youth line at WoW. Please send stuffing for boxes (plastic bags). Indoor range potential - First Flight $25 per person. Interst in arrow making class. Thrown Weapons No more Friday night sessions. Will start the first Sunday at Attilium. Attilium - International Folk Festival is coming up. Buckston - Preparations for birthday. Meetings have moved to Thursday. Elevegast - Not meeting on Halloween and preparing for next year's Festival of Elvegast. Kappelenberg - Still meeting every Monday. Rapier practice on Thursday. Nimenefeld - Great atmosphere. Had 13 people for a 30 min meeting. Combat archery will be moving ahead. Setting a budget for Midnight at the Oasis for September 26-28, 2020 6 The Windlore November 2019 Windmasters' Hill - New Fighter Program Windmasters' Hill has enjoyed a growth of new members and in concert with that growth new fighters as well. Our canton has collectively decided to create a serious learning environment with an effort to “rehab” old loaner armor and get it into the hands of those new fighters. One of the first myths we had to dis-spell was that our fun sport was “expensive”. Over the past year, we have received old, deteriorating armor and rudimentary pieces (swords shields etc). We in turn, helped to improve each individual kit with knowledge and spare pieces of equipment we have collected over the years. This resulted in a pool of fighters advancing their skills and appearance. Through this effort we have developed THREE Categories of fighters in our Barony. All at different levels of training and investment. Investment is calculated not necessarily by monetary measures. Time, energy and craftiness can do much to offset the potential cost of expensive armor. We all have a role to play in Investment. Investment is a two way street by which an experienced fighter can assist others with technique and training. And the new fighter can invest in time they commit to improve their craft, service to the local group and a committed “team” attitude. Seldom do we see new members want to belong to a group and not “be” with others. We all have something unique to offer… and likewise receive from others. Category 1: Knight level - You’ve been recognized to be a master at our craft and as such are charged with developing other fighters in the area for the Kings Army. This is accomplished by a deep personal bond (squire-men at arms) or by training newer fighters at local practices. Category 2: Squire level- you’ve begun serious training to travel the path of a knight. Several challenges await you but you are encouraged to train those around you to the best of your ability. You are also encouraged to be an informal leader within your area to help those less trained to survive and thrive on the field of battle. Category 3: NewFighter- You have seen others fight. You have experienced the feeling of being in armor, striking opponents and more importantly striking others. All with good, stout blows which, if not properly armored, would kill your opponent. In short you “feel” like a medieval warrior. Your skills are basic and your armor is “safe” but you are looking, searching and experimenting with your persona and the armor of a “knight” you idealize in the time period you have chosen. 7 The Windlore October 2019 We potentially see all three categories present at Baronial Practices. Common Atlantian Melee tactics must be demonstrated, and executed with proficiency. We have the pieces, AND the knowledge…now we have to analyze the typical events we field as a Baronial Unit each year. Every new fighter begins their training to fight in Tourneys and understands calibration, force and technique. Proper engagement is taught and learned, through melee practices. This we must deliberately plan for.
