MAASSEN National Museum of Natural History (Naturalis), P.O.Box 9517, NL-2300RA, Leiden, The Netherlands [email protected] & Bas KOKSHOORN National Museum of Natural History (Naturalis), P.O.Box 9517, NL-2300RA, Leiden, The Netherlands [email protected] An appraisal of the published work of Edmund Gittenberger is presented accompanied by a list of his new molluscan taxa, a total of 270 for the years 1960-2007. Keywords: Gastropoda, Bivalvia, new taxa, Gittenberger, history of biology. Edmund (Edi) Gittenberger’s publication history started in 1960 with the publication of his first paper in the newsletter of the Dutch Malacological Society (Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging, NMV). Here we describe 48 years of publication history, from 1960 until 2007. During this time Edi published 324 contributions. Over a quarter of his publications (27.8%) was published in ‘Basteria’, the journal of the Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging of which he joined the editorial board in 1977. In 2000 he took over as editor-in-chief. His professional scientific career started in 1965, when he became assistant-curator of the Mollusca at the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden (NNM). Here we first give an overview of his complete publication record until 2007. A complete list of his pub- lications can be found on www.science.naturalis.nl. Secondly, we present a complete list of his taxa and the associated references as they were at the time this paper went to print. Data used in this paper were derived from the library of the first author and from that of the NNM. As said, Edi published 324 papers, resulting in 4,364 pages. With a 48 year publica- tion history this brings us to an average of appoximately 92 pages per year. However, the output per year is very variable, so this number doesn’t say much. We therefore looked at the average number of pages per paper per year (fig. 1). This shows that the overall aver- age (13.5) is relatively high due to seven ‘outliers’, i.e. values that numerically strongly deviate from the rest of the observations. These seven peaks can be traced back to seven voluminous publications. In 1970 he published, together with Th. E. J. Ripken and W. Backhuys a field guide to the Dutch land snails. 1973 marked the publication of his thesis, a contribution to the knowledge of the Chondrininae. He translated Kerney and Cameron’s field guide to the land snails of Britain and NW Europe, which appeared in 1980. The next two outliers are marked by two monographs. In 1984 he published, togeth- er with J.J. van Aartsen and H.P.M.G. Menkhorst, a treatise on the marine molluscs of the bay of Algeciras. Together with H.D. Boeters and P. Subai a monograph on the Aciculidae was published in 1989. The last two voluminous publications, in 1992 and 1998 were his contributions to the thesis of T. Kemperman and his work on the book on the freshwater molluscs of the Netherlands. Average number of pages published per year in the period 1960-2007. Seven outliers are shown in red with the associated book covers or title page. When we look at his co-author list, we find a total of 110 people with whom he col- laborated at least once. A top-ten of co-authors is listed in table 1. Over the whole publication history a steady increase in number of publications can be observed (fig. 2a). These publications resulted in the description of 270 new molluscan taxa (fig. 2b). In total he described 1 new family (Elonidae), 18 genera, 4 subgenera, 207 species and 40 subspecies. A list of taxa is provided in table 2. Thomson’s ‘ISI Web of Knowledge’ (http://www.isiwebofknowledge.com/) gives us the opportunity to have a look at the contributions that were made to one of over 9,000 journals that are indexed by Thomson. Data are available from 1982 onward. This gives only a marginal representation of the work by Edi Gittenberger, since many taxonomical- ly orientated journals and/or books (including Basteria) are not indexed. It does however give us some insight in the impact of his contributions. Edi published 52 papers in indexed journals (16% of all his contributions, 21% since 1982). These papers were cited 217 times (or 338 times when self-citations are included), yielding an average citation of 4.17 (6.50). Pyramidellidae Subfamily Turbonillinae Genus Turbonilla Species recorded from the SCB By Tony Phillips DCE At the October 2010 SCAMIT meeting it was suggested by Pat LaFollette for us to take high quality, detailed photographs of our Turbonilla, Pyrgiscus and Odostomia species (don’t forget scale bars, locality and depth information!) and share with him and with each other. If it is possible to assign it unequivocally to a described species, he will aid us in giving specimens names…... He also suggested we use Abbott 1974 as a primary resource..... Therefore we shall use only the genus name Turbonilla for all the species included….(Penas & Rolan, 2010) ….as most of the turbonillids, the majority of species cannot yet be defensibly seated in an appropriate genus.

Critical comments on species erroneously mentioned in re- cent publications from Slovakia are included. KEY WORDS: Mollusca, checklist, Slovak Republic INTRODUCTION Research of Slovak molluscs started at the begin- cal evaluation of the previously published checklists ning of the 20th century (CSIKI 1918). (2015), we cover the Conoidea and the Heterobranchia. Fifty-nine species are recorded, of which 14 are new: Asthenotoma lanceolata nov. sp., Aphanitoma marqueti nov. sp., Clathurella pierreaimei nov. sp., Clavatula helwerdae nov. sp., Haedropleura fratemcontii nov. sp., Bela falbalae nov. sp., Raphitoma georgesi nov. sp., Raphitoma landreauensis nov. sp., Raphitoma palumbina nov. sp., Raphitoma turtaudierei nov. sp., Raphitoma vercingetorixi nov. sp., Raphitoma pseudoconcinna nov. sp., Adelphotectonica bieleri nov. sp., and Ondina asterixi nov. sp. One new name is erected: Genota maximei nov. nom. is proposed for Pleurotoma insignis Millet, non Edwards, 1861. Actaeonidea achatina Sacco, 1896 is considered a junior subjective synonym of Rictaxis tornatus (Millet, 1854).

  • Datos De Diversidad Y Distribución De Moluscos Pulmonados En El Sur De
ABSTRACT In this work, a bibliographic analysis was performed to find out the distributions of gastropods in the south of the Iberian Peninsula to find out if any area or distribution of any species has not been sufficiently sampled or analyzed.
