What work motifs arise from these to accompany us in the coming decade? Let us mention three here: Markus Brüderlin, museum director and inaugurator of the large travelling exhibition for the Rudolf Steiner anniversary year, “The alchemy of every-day things”, said at the opening Anthroposophy must become even more cosmopolitan than it is at in Wolfsburg that the time had passed when Rudolf Steiner could be left to the anthropo- present, it must not be constrained by sophists alone, he had long become a cultural factor. The spirit of these statements is also of importance in representing an- See also the report from the Ita Wegman Institute by throposophic medicine. It is healthy to realise that the inspirations of Rudolf Steiner and his Prof. Dr. med. Peter Selg, p. 41 co-workers in the spiritual world reach far beyond the group of members and friends in the Anthroposophical Society and movement and take effect in those places where the burning questions of life are found. Next, an experience which goes back to the roots of anthroposophy: this year’s training week for anthroposophic medicine1 in India took place in Chennai, the city in which the Theosophi- cal Society was founded in 1875. It provided an opportunity to visit the society’s headquarters in the district of Adyar. We were received most warmly by one of the members of the execut- ive council whose daughter – a sixth-generation theosophist – gave us a guided tour outside opening hours: through the wonderful park into the impressive crosswise main building in which the main representatives of the world religions are represented under the roof of the all-unifying truth. It was a particular pleasure to be able to make this visit just one month after the founding of the national Anthroposophical Society in India and to remember these predecessors with gratitude on whom the anthroposophical movement, which today has about 18,000 members, was able to build. How many lectures and inspirations do we owe to the Theosophical Society which appointed Rudolf Steiner as leader of the German Section in 1902, whose members asked the questions which enabled him to speak about the treasures of his knowledge? His account of the Christian path of initiation and the task of transforming the earth through its nine layers (GA178) also belongs to this theosophical period. Thirdly, the 2011 annual conference at the Goetheanum: the clinics celebrating their anniver- saries had wished to work on aspects of therapeutic community building. Such a striving for community also contributes to the transformation of the earth mentioned above, particularly 1 IPMT / International Postgraduate the eighth layer of the earth in which the forces are at work which opposed everything that Medical Training, see report p. 31 Activities report 2011 – Events and perspectives in 2012 3 2 2 Cf. the newsletters of the Medical is unifying and healing in the development of humanity. Copies of working papers are available from the author. Entrepreneurship in the Natural Food and Beauty Categories before 2000: Global Visions and Local Expressions Geoffrey Jones Harvard Business School August 2012 Abstract This working paper examines the creation of the global natural food and beauty categories before 2000. This is shown to have been a lengthy process of new category creation involving the exercise of entrepreneurial imagination. Pioneering entrepreneurs faced little consumer demand for natural products, and little consumer knowledge of what they entailed. The creation of new categories involved three overlapping waves of entrepreneurship. The first involved making the ideological case for natural products. This often entailed investment in education and publishing activities. Second, entrepreneurs engaged in the creation of industry associations which could advocate, as well as give the nascent industry credibility and create standards. Finally, entrepreneurs established retail stores, supply and distribution networks, and created brands. Entrepreneurial cognition and motivation frequently lay in individual, and very local, experiences, but many of the key pioneers were also highly globalized in their world views, with strong perception of how small, local efforts related to much bigger and global pictures. A significant sub-set of the influential historical figures were articulate in expressing strong religious convictions.

RUDOLF STEINER LIBRARY VYDZ023789 T H E G O L D E N B L A D E KINDLING SPIRIT 2002 54th ISSUE RUDOLF STEINER LIBRARY 65 FERN HILL RD GHENT NY 12075 KINDLING SPIRIT Edited by William Forward, Simon Blaxland-de Lange and Warren Ashe The Golden Blade Anthroposophy springs from the work and teaching of Rudolf Steiner. He described it as a path of knowledge, to guide the spiritual in the human being to the spiritual in the universe. The aim of this annual journal is to bring the outlook of anthroposophy to bear on questions and activities relevant to the present, in a way which may have lasting value. It was founded in 1949 by Charles Davy and Arnold Freeman, who were its first editors. The title derives from an old Persian legend, according to which King Jamshid received from his god, Ahura Mazda, a golden blade with which to fulfil his mission on earth. It carried the heavenly forces of light into the darkness of earthly substance, thus allowing its transformation. The legend points to the pos sibility that humanity, through wise and compassionate work with the earth, can one day regain on a new level what was lost when the Age of Gold was supplanted by those of Silver, Bronze and Iron. Technology could serve this aim; instead of endan gering our plantet's life, it could help to make the earth a new sun. • The Dignity of the Human Body
The dignity of the human body External treatments in the practice and research of Anthroposophic Medicine 17.09. to 20.09.2015 International annual conference of the Medical Section at the Goetheanum It could be that a threefold sequences of facts will cause the medical approach with a greater materialistic outlook to turn towards the one with a greater spiritual scientific orientation […]. It will happen in the observation of all those things connected with the development of growths, and specifically their possible cure. And it will come to appearance in a truly rational understanding of the so-called mental illnesses, and then in the therapeutic knowledge which will have to be acquired for the use of external methods, that is rhythmical Einreibungen, the application of ointments and similar things. Rudolf Steiner, GA 312, Lecture of 2 April 1920 2 The dignity of the human body The dignity of the human body – External treatments in the practice and research of anthroposophic medicine External treatments such as baths, washing, compresses, wraps, rhythmical Einreibungen or massages are a central element of anthroposophic medicine and its integrative system. They act via the skin in which the human spiritual and soul being awakens in the nervous and sensory system to the differentiated perception of touch, warmth and cold. On the other hand we know about differentiated metabolic and regenerative functions of the skin which take place unconsciously. Blushing or turning pale, and thus the changing colour of the skin, is conveyed by the rhythmical system. External treatments can directly influence the structure of the human component elements disrupted by illness.
