Vocabulary:
- geography – the study of a region’s landforms, water bodies, climate, natural resources, and people.
- continent – a large body of land on Earth
- ocean – a large body of salt water on Earth
- map – a drawing that shows what places look like from above and where they are located.
- map legend – a list of shapes and symbols used on a map with an explanation of what each stands for.
- compass rose – a symbol on a map that shows directions (north, south, east, west)
- globe – a round model of Earth
- equator – an imaginary line around the middle of the earth that divides the globe into the northern and southern hemispheres.
- Prime Meridian – an imaginary line that divides the globe into the eastern and western hemispheres.
- river – a large natural stream of water that flows into another body of water.
- mountain range – a line, or chain, of mountains connected by higher ground.
- peninsula – a piece of land surrounded by water, typically on 3 sides and connected to a larger piece of land on 1 side.
- desert – a dry, barren area of land.
- lake – a large body of water surrounded by land.
- rainforest – a dense forest with consistently heavy rainfall.
