Leeds Secondary Admission Policy for September 2021 to July 2022 Latest consultation on this policy: 13 December 2019 and 23 January 2020 Policy determined on: 12 February 2020 Policy determined by: Executive Board Admissions policy for Leeds community secondary schools for the academic year September 2021 – July 2022 The Chief Executive makes the offer of a school place at community schools for Year 7 on behalf of Leeds City Council as the admissions authority for those schools. Headteachers or school-based staff are not authorised to offer a child a place for these year groups for September entry. The authority to convey the offer of a place has been delegated to schools for places in other year groups and for entry to Year 7 outside the normal admissions round. This Leeds City Council (Secondary) Admission Policy applies to the schools listed below. Appendix 1 Working together to tackle Climate Change ‘You’re never too young to make a difference’ Youth Voice Summit: 12th February 2020 Summary Event Report 1 Background to the event Since 2016, the Voice, Influence and Change team have hosted a series of “Youth Voice Summit” events for young people in Leeds to come together to work with local decision makers on an issue that is important to them. For 2020, the theme was “Tackling Climate Change”. This was to reflect: 1. Young People across the country voting “Tackling Climate Change” as their top issue in the 2019 annual UK Youth Parliament “Make Your Mark” ballot 2. Leeds City Council formally declaring a ‘climate emergency’ in March 2019 3. The growing youth-led “Strike4Climate” movement in cities around the world, including here in Leeds The Voice, Influence and Change Team worked in partnership with the Leeds City Council Health and Wellbeing Service to plan and deliver the event. The day was split into three sequential workshops that were designed to enable students to consider climate change from a broad philosophical perspective before having the opportunity to take part in a Q&A panel and then finally working together to devise and develop practical solutions to lower the carbon footprint of their school communities. Their solutions are to be used in Leeds City Council guidance that will be issued to schools. Consultation and marketplace stalls Having such a large and diverse range of young people in one place provided a great opportunity for other services to deliver their own consultation and engagement work during the break times.

Leeds NEU Annual Report to the AGM 4 March 2021 _______________________________________________________________________________ 1 CONTEXT: THE PANDEMIC The last AGM of the Leeds District and Branch took place on March 14th 2020. It is almost impossible to convey the circumstances of the ensuing 12 months except to say that this has been an academic and union year without precedent. The normal functioning of the district was suspended between March and the end of July. The national union ruled that the usual decision-making members’ meetings should no longer take place as we could only meet online. There was no further general members’ meeting (OGM) until October 1st. On the other hand, the number of online meetings, the attendance and the engagement of members all increased beyond any recent measure. This was reflected in significant increases in Leeds NEU membership and workplace rep numbers. We have good reason to believe that we will emerge from this crisis as a stronger and even more effective organisation. 2 LEEDS NEU DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC The union branch and district continued to function since March 23rd but work was completely dominated by the crisis. The office was closed with officers and office administrator working from home. Conference 2020 was cancelled. The work of the branch has focused mainly on Covid-19, at first the lockdown and then the partial reopening from June 1st and the wider reopening in September. The main issues have been: self-isolation, sickness and the treatment of pay and absence, shielding and the vulnerable, attendance at school and rotas, including holiday periods, distance learning, workload and reasonable expectation and supply teachers.
