Hence acidic water that flow into the stream had potential health risks to both aquatic life and residents in the vicinity of the mine. Study will be conduct to investigate water quality and AMD characteristics which are pH value of the stream or discharge area, mineral composition in the rock and neutralization value of the rock in AMD mining area. Result shows that pH value of water in Kg. Aur, Chini and Sg. Lembing are acidic with value of 2.81, 4.16 and 3.60 respectively. Maximum concentrations of heavy metals in the study area are: Pb (0.2 mg/L), Cd (0.05 mg/L), Zn (5.1 mg/L), Cu (5.2 mg/L), Mn (10.9 mg/L), Cr (0.2 mg/L), Ni (0.2 mg/L), As (0.005 mg/L) and Fe (202.69 mg/L). Prediction of acid formation using acid-base calculations from all samples shows high potential acid production between 22.84-2500.16 kg CaCO₃/tonne. The ratio of neutralization (NP) with acid potential (APP) shows a very low value (ratio < 1) Sg.

Both are related to a condition of a person mental health that they are not physically visible specifically in the workplace. The study regarding mental health at the workplace has been conducted long time ago by many researchers, thus psychosocial and psychological issues in the workplace were quite familiar due to the emergence of new types of hazards and associated risks in the workplace settings. In respect to that, no one should be harm by their work nature had driven more studies on these invisible aspects. To avoid more confusion between these terms, proper understanding must be developed in order to use any of these terms in research. This paper draws a clear distinction between these two terms (psychosocial risk and psychological health) and the related issues in the workplace settings. Keywords—Psychosocial risk; psychological health; mental health 1. INTRODUCTION The study on mental health at the workplace was not very prominent among safety and health researchers, this might be due to their nature as the unseen hazards compared to other types of occupational hazards.

  • A Case Study in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
Geographical Review of Japan Vol. 61 (Ser. B), No. 2, 191-211, 1988 The Agricultural Development of Hill Stations in Tropical Asia -A Case Study in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia- Shigeru SHIRASAKA* There are many highland settlements known as "hill stations" or "summer resorts" in Southeast Asian countries under the tropical and subtropical climate. The hill station is not a native institution, but one developed during the nineteenth century by the British and Dutch colonial masters in order to make sojourns in a foreign land more comfortable. In southern Japan, the worst period is from June through August, though its intensity does not compare with that farther south. In Malaysia and Indonesia, the period extends throughout the year. The Cameron Highlands is the most famous hill station in Peninsular Malaysia being one of colonial origin. The Cameron Highlands is located between 1,000 and 1,500 meters above sea level on the main range of central Malaysia. Today, the Cameron Highlands is mainly a summer resort, but it is also a very important mid-latitude vegetable growing area. The development of the Cameron Highlands began only after 1926, though it was discovered by, and named after, William CAMERONin 1885. Almost simultaneous with the opening of the Came ron Highlands as a hill resort was the growth and development of vegetable farming by farmers of Chinese origin. There are also three new vegetable farming settlements developed after World War II. Some 47 per cent of the inhabitants of the Cameron Highlands are Chinese Malaysian, and they shoulder the vegetable growing business.

The montane forest area was degraded as the topsoil was removed after the area was encroached for agriculture development. Each of the plant was treated with three (3) different fertilizer and a control (without fertilizer): 1) NPK 8:8:8 (300g granular), 2) Asid Humic (liquid) and 3) NPK 8:8:8 (300g, granular) + Asid Humic. The stand age is about three years old and divided into three blocks. The diameter of each tree was taken at the stem, 3 inch from the ground for eight months. Results eight (8) months after introducing with treatment showed that using NPK 8:8:8 + Asid Humic is the best treatment for both Magnolia champaca and Hopea odorata with an average diameter of 6.5 mm and 6.3 mm increment respectively.

  • Carey Island’S Port: Is It a “Need” Or “Want” ? Statement of Objectives
社会经济研究中心 SOCIO-ECONOMIC RESEARCH CENTRE Part 3: Carey Island’s port: Is it a “Need” or “Want” ? Statement of objectives • The idea of developing Carey Island’s port was conceptualised following the remarks that existing ports in the Port Klang area will hit maximum capacity. In early 2017, Port Klang Authority (PKA) had announced existing ports in the area will reach maximum capacity by 2025. • In April 2017, MMC Corporation Bhd has signed two agreements: (1) The first one with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) to conduct a feasibility study of Carey Island as an extension of Port Klang; and (2) Second MoU with Sime Darby Property Bhd and APSEZ to study the feasibility of developing an integrated maritime city in Carey Island. • In July 2018, another feasibility study under new administration will be independently conducted and commissioned by Port Klang Authority (PKA). As of now, previous government had not issued approval for the Carey Port. Transport Minister Anthony Loke indicated that the project will be private initiative-driven if the Parliament approved. • The objectives of this working paper are to provide an overview of the port development in Carey Island and also to assess the potential of the Carey Island project that can enhance the surrounding development. Socio-Economic Research Centre 1 Scope of the study Section 1: An overview of Carey Island • Illustrate some facts, the development status and hinterland connections about Carey Island. Section 2: Site and location analysis • Describe the land ownership of Carey Island, including an estimation of opportunity cost on Sime Darby Plantation’s arable land and palm oil revenue if Carey Port has to be implemented.

  • Collaboration, Christian Mission and Contextualisation: the Overseas Missionary Fellowship in West Malaysia from 1952 to 1977
Collaboration, Christian Mission and Contextualisation: The Overseas Missionary Fellowship in West Malaysia from 1952 to 1977 Allen MCCLYMONT A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Kingston University for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History. Submitted June 2021 ABSTRACT The rise of communism in China began a chain of events which eventually led to the largest influx of Protestant missionaries into Malaya and Singapore in their history. During the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), a key part of the British Government’s strategy to defeat communist insurgents was the relocation of more than 580,000 predominantly Chinese rural migrants into what became known as the ‘New Villages’. This thesis examines the response of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF), as a representative of the Protestant missionary enterprise, to an invitation from the Government to serve in the New Villages. It focuses on the period between their arrival in 1952 and 1977, when the majority of missionaries had left the country, and assesses how successful the OMF was in fulfilling its own expectation and those of the Government that invited them. It concludes that in seeking to fulfil Government expectation, residential missionaries were an influential presence, a presence which contributed to the ongoing viability of the New Villages after their establishment and beyond Independence. It challenges the portrayal of Protestant missionaries as cultural imperialists as an outdated paradigm with which to assess their role. By living in the New Villages under the same restrictions as everyone else, missionaries unconsciously became conduits of Western culture and ideas. At the same time, through learning local languages and supporting indigenous agency, they encouraged New Village inhabitants to adapt to Malaysian society, while also retaining their Chinese identity.
