LIST OF ISSUES FOR THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2012 KITV-DT- HONOLULU, HI KMAU~DT- WAILUKU, HI KIIVO~DT- HILO, HI

1. THE ECONOMY- Hawaii's residents struggle with some of the highest prices in the nation on food, goods and services, and housing. The tourist economy collapsed in late 2008 and taxes on small business still force many to close or relocate to mainland cities, and now unemployment is creating m~tior problems for many.

2. EDUCATION- Education is an important issue for this state. Hawaii is the only state in the nation that has a central Department of Educatio11 that controls schools statewide. Test scores indicate Hawaii needs to improve the quality of public education for its citizens.

3. HEALTH & SAFETY~ Hawaii is "The Health State." Universal health coverage is a reality hen.:, but the multi-ethnic population is still struggling with the high cost of health can~ and the effects <.~f the diseases that afTcct all Americans. Safety is an issue in schools, neighborhoods and on the roads. Homeland security is a major issue based on Hawaii's geographic isolation and its strategic value for the armed services.

4. THE ENVIRONMENT- Hawaii's unique environment is home to half of the world's endangered species. Protecting the environment, educating the public and guarding against the introduction of alien species is the concern of many of Hawaii's citizens and the single most ilnportant issue of Flavvaii's young people. " 5. HA '\VAll AN CULTURE & CULTURE OF HAWAIPS PEOPLE- HawaWs indigenous people are working to preserve their language and culture along with traditional arts and dance. They continue the struggle for self"detennination in land and taw. Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and many other cultures contribute to what makes Hmvaii unique in today's world.

Each month, KITV4 employees contribute their time to a wide variety of community organizations. Those eflbrts are noted as KITV4 Outreach on the accompanying document. PH.OGRAMMING THAT RESl~ONDED TO LISTED ISSUES
