The AFA is Australia’s leading food awards program with judging taking place at Melbourne Showgrounds, Victoria. This year, we expanded our offering to include: a beverages category that reached 50 entries in its first year; introduced classes supported by Meat Standards Australia for branded beef, wagyu and lamb; and new dietary classes of gluten free, vegan, sugar free and dairy free. These exciting changes ensure the AFA continues to be aligned with industry trends, production techniques and importantly, consumer interest. In 2019, the AFA received an outstanding 1478 entries, a true acknowledgment of the important role the Awards have in providing producers with benchmarking opportunities and feedback from the industry’s most respected judges. Requiring a large and dedicated team who spent nine days preparing and judging the terrific range of products, the 2019 AFA was made possible by the efforts of the three head judges, 98 judges, eight associate judges and 18 stewards that oversaw and undertook the judging. We thank you all for sharing your knowledge, experience and dedication to help deliver the AFA to the highest possible standard. To the sponsors, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Prestige Modular Coolrooms Australia and Meat and Livestock Australia thank you for supporting the AFA. The AFA profile and prestige grows by the year and in 2019, we held the presentation dinner at Melbourne Showgrounds’ brand new Victoria Pavilion. Hosting the event in early September, we aligned with Global Table, an international conference that seeks to solve the world’s food challenges and create tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Finally, we congratulate all those lucky winners. We look forward to showcasing your stories and providing a platform for you to celebrate and promote your achievements.
