Perillyl Alcohol Conjugate Downregulates O6-Methylguanin DNA Methltransferase Via Inducing Ubiquitination-De
Song et al. Cell Death and Disease (2018) 9:202 DOI 10.1038/s41419-017-0193-2 Cell Death & Disease ARTICLE Open Access Temozolomide–perillyl alcohol conjugate downregulates O6- methylguanin DNA methltransferase via inducing ubiquitination-dependent proteolysis in non-small cell lung cancer Xingguo Song1,LiXie1,2,MinghuiChang2,3,XinranGeng4,XingwuWang1,ThomasC.Chen5 and Xianrang Song 1,2 Abstract The DNA repair enzyme O6-methylguanin-DNA-methltransferase (MGMT) is able to remove products of alkylating agent such as O6-meG and emerges as a central determinant of cancer resistance to temozolomide (TMZ). Temozolomide–perillyl alcohol conjugate (TMZ–POH), a novel TMZ analog developed based on the conjugation of TMZ and POH, displayed strong anticancer potency in multiple cancer types, but seemed not to experience the chemoresistance even in cells with high MGMT expression unlike TMZ and other alkylating agents. In this study, we demonstrated TMZ–POH inhibited MGMT dependent on proteasomal pathway and this inhibition is a significant factor in its toxic effect in the non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. 1234567890():,; 1234567890():,; Introduction such as O6-methyl-guanine (O6-meG), which trigger cell Nowadays, chemotherapy has been traditionally con- cycle-dependent DNA damage and cell death4. Although sidered as one of the standard treatment options for TMZ chemotherapy may enhance survival of cancer cancer patients, but the chemoresistance dramatically patients, intrinsic or acquired resistance to TMZ is also hinders its clinical application, especially for alkylating common and accounts for many treatment failures5, agents like temozolomide (TMZ)1. TMZ, an imidazote- because TMZ-induced DNA alkylation damage can be trazine derivative of the alkylating agent dacarbazine, was repaired by O6-methylguanin-DNA-methltransferase approved by the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) (MGMT)6. -

Most studies mainly focus on changes of ecological vulnerability concerning the temporal trend, but rarely take arid and semi-arid areas into consideration to explore the spatial heterogeneity of the ecological vulnerability index (EVI) there. In this study, we selected the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on the Loess Plateau of China, a typical arid and semi-arid area, as a case to investigate the spatial heterogeneity of the EVI every five years, from 1990 to 2015. Based on remote sensing data, meteorological data, and economic statistical data, this study first evaluated the temporal-spatial change of ecological vulnerability in the study area by Geo-information Tupu. Further, we explored the spatial heterogeneity of the ecological vulnerability using Getis-Ord Gi*. Results show that: (1) the regions with high ecological vulnerability are mainly concentrated in the north of the study area, which has high levels of economic growth, while the regions with low ecological vulnerability are mainly distributed in the relatively poor regions in the south of the study area. -
Emperor's River: China's Grand Canal – Philipp Scholz Rittermann July 1
Emperor’s River: China’s Grand Canal – Philipp Scholz Rittermann July 1 – November 30, 2014 Harn Museum of Art -- Rubin Gallery Introduction In 2009 and 2010, photographer Philipp Scholz Rittermann traveled along China’s Grand Canal to capture the country’s booming economy, and rapidly changing landscape and social structure. Rittermann’s photographic interests are largely focused on the built environment, and the way people and the planet are transformed by it. He traveled to China first as an invited artist and then on succeeding trips to document this massive waterway. Having mastered, in previous projects, the digital panorama—a format hungry for information—he found his ideal subject in the People’s Republic of China. The number of bridges, boats, scooters, railways, and the subject of the series itself, the Grand Canal, speaks to Rittermann’s fascination with passage. This material manifestation of movement becomes symbolic of our collective human journey in the 21st century. Accelerated passage and progress are the means by which this particular culture, China, and subsequently the world, plunges headlong into the future. Rittermann wants to momentarily arrest these unprecedented changes to reflect on their ramifications. As we voyage out of one century into another, his photographs become lyrical topographical maps from which to chart the course of a brave new world. — Carol McCusker, Curator About the Artist & Series To make his photographs, Philipp Rittermann handholds a digital camera, panning across a scene, making exposures every few seconds, anticipating what is about to happen in each frame. The specific needs of each frame (light, perspective, focal separation) must be understood in a fraction of a second while shooting. -

Internal Ex-Post Evaluation for Technical Cooperation Project
Internal Ex-Post Evaluation for Technical Cooperation Project conducted by China Office: January, 2019 Country Name Project for Capacity Development on Mental Health Services for Reconstruction Support of People's Republic of China Sichuan Earthquake I. Project Outline In the disaster-affected area hit by the Sichuan Earthquake on May 12, 2008, reconstruction works were steadily being implemented with focus on infrastructure development. Programs on mental health and psychosocial support for those affected were also started right after the Earthquake by various governmental agencies and other organizations in and out of China. However, it was said that the average incidence rate of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the quake-affected area was estimated as more than 10% (at the time of ex-ante evaluation) and cases of secondary damage including suicide were continuously reported. This indicated that there had still been Background urgent needs of the metal health and psychological support. What still remained as challenges were: how to cope with the lack of mental health care workers, how to ensure the quality of care program, how to secure the sustainability of care provision system, and what to do with the lack of comprehensive coordination and management. It was confirmed that these challenges were aggravated over the time. It was also pointed out that the self-care of mental health care workers should be given full consideration as it was often the case that they themselves were the disaster victims. In the disaster-affected area hit by the Sichuan Earthquake (Sichuan Province, Gansu Province, and Shaanxi Province), the project aims to establish the appropriate and sustainable community-based psychosocial support system(1) through human resource development of mental health care workers in multi-sectoral areas (education, psychology, social work and medicine) as well as strengthening of collaboration and cooperation among sectors with focus on affected people, thereby having the concept of established support system well accepted in those project areas. -
