In the same way, the Inca empire used symbols and a set of visual standards to create a “brand identity” for the empire. This is most apparent in their design, creation, and use of textiles. In this essay, I explore how Inca textile design and production used techniques such as— attention to materials, iconography, and standardization—to create and strictly reinforce the Inca empire brand identity. [Indigenous American Empires and the Spanish Conquest] SUBJECT TEACHER GRADE DATE [American History] [?] [High School] [November 11, 2020] OVERVIEW When the Spanish arrived in the Americas, they had no clear understanding of the size and breadth of the new lands they’d reached. Equally so was their ignorance of the great and diverse nations to be encountered along the way - some in the very prime of their power, others long since reaching their epoch. Usually, the Empires of the Inca and Aztec are mentioned in tandem with their fall to the Spaniards, but what of their rise to power in the preceding centuries? Indeed, just who were they; how did they administer vast empires; and why did these crumble so quickly? Moreover, what of those indigenous groups who actively fought alongside the Spanish as allies, against their longtime rivals? That the Tlascalans of Mexico steadfastly fought alongside Cortes’s Conquistadors throughout the conquest of the Aztec is mentioned haphazardly, but sheds considerable light on the diverse response of indigenous people to the coming of the Spanish. Not all fought against them; indeed, many profited by their coming. Unit Goal - By unit’s end, students will understand that indigenous people had great agency during the Spanish Conquest, choosing to fight against, or beside the invaders, depending upon their own interests. There was no universal response as the peoples of Mesoamerica were as politically diverse as Europe or Asia. - Students will know to contextualize the actions of all participants firmly within the sixteenth century time period in which they lived, as well as understand the cultural and strategic picture driving the actions of key participants. -

Contemporary sheep treated to look like tree calf, lettering piece, gilt fillets and gilt ornaments to spine. Some rubbing to extremities, a few minor scuffs and stains to boards, corners bumped, front endleaves lacking, about 1/4 inch trimmed from foot of title page. Toning, faint dampspotting in places, tiny dampstains to title page. Brief annotations to front pastedown and rear endleaf, interior otherwise clean. $500. * Fourth edition. Divided into two parts, each with four sections, this is an elementary textbook on Spanish law similar (in overall conception) to the Institutes of Justinian. In his preface Castro says his principal sources were Vela, Molina, Gregorio Lopez, Acevedo, Barbosa, Gutierrez, Rodriguez, Acosta, Parladorio and Antonio Gomez. First published in 1762, this book went through four more editions in 1770, 1781, 1794 and 1828. All are scarce and rarely found in North America. Of all editions, OCLC locates 5 copies, all of the 1781, two in law libraries (Harvard, Library of Congress). -

Due to large amount of calculation and slow speed of the feature selection for cotton fiber, a fast feature selection algorithm based on PSO was developed. It is searched by particle swarm optimization algorithm. Though search features by using PSO, it is reduced the number of classifier training and reduced the computational complexity. Experimental results indicate that, in the case of no loss of the classification performances, the method accelerates feature selection. Keywords: Cotton, Foreign fiber, Feature selection, Particle swarm optimization. Introduction The foreign fibers in cotton is non-cotton fiber and non-nature color cotton fiber, such as chemical fiber, hair, hemp rope and so on, which are missing with the cotton and have serious influence on the quality of cotton and its product. Foreign fiber has serious impact on textile products even the quantity is very small. Once the fiber is mixed into cotton fiber, it will not only affect the textile spinning capacity, but also form color spots in dyed fabric which may seriously affect the appearance of the fabric and make a great damage to the cotton textile industry. In China, a number of cotton processing enterprises mainly rely on large numbers of workers employed to pick the foreign fiber. -

Using original documents I gathered in research trips to Chile and Spain, I am able to reconstruct the debates that went on both sides of the Atlantic over funds, protection from ’ th pirates, and indigenous slavery that so defined Chile s formative 17 century. While my conclusions are unique, frontier residents from Paraguay to northern New Spain were also dealing with volatile indigenous alliances, threats from European enemies, and questions about how their tiny settlements could get and keep the attention of the crown. -
