Renault F1 im Fokus Du darfst dir keinen Fehler erlauben“ Das Rennen: Einer hat sich für den Großen Preis von Deutschland am 25. Juli auf dem Hockenheimring besonders viel vorgenommen: Jarno Trulli. Mit seinem Renault R24 startet der Italiener, der in dieser Saison schon den Großen Preis von Monaco gewonnen hat, auf dem 4,574 Kilometer langen Kurs einen weiteren Angriff auf den dritten Platz in der Fahrerweltmeisterschaft. „Ich bin ziemlich zuversichtlich für dieses Rennen“, sagt er, „ich mag den Kurs von Hockenheim.“ Kein Wunder: Als Dritter holte er dort im Vorjahr seinen ersten Podestplatz für Renault. Sein Teamkollege Fernando Alonso kam als Vierter ins Ziel. Mit einer ähnlich starken Mannschaftsleistung könnten die Renault F1 Piloten beim zweiten Saisonauftritt der Formel 1 in Deutschland den hervorragenden zweiten Platz von Renault hinter Spitzenreiter Ferrari in der Konstrukteursweltmeisterschaft untermauern. Auf was es in Hockenheim vor allem ankommt? „Du musst sehr präzise fahren und darfst dir keinen Fehler erlauben, weil es für deine Gegner reichlich Gelegenheiten zum Überholen gibt“, erläutert Jarno Trulli, der sich nur zu gerne ein nachträgliches Geschenk zu seinem 30. Geburtstag machen würde. „Unser R24 sollte auf dieser Strecke gut funktionieren, außerdem hoffe ich auf weitere Entwicklungsteile.“ Das Team: Um den Renault R24 optimal auf den Großen Preis von Deutschland vorzubereiten, testete Renault F1 drei Tage lang im spanischen Jerez. Mit dem Finnen Heikki Kovalainen war dabei erstmals ein Nachwuchsfahrer aus dem erfolgreichen Renault Development Programm in die Testarbeit eingebunden, um den Stammpiloten nach der Serie kurz aufeinander folgender Rennen und Tests eine kleine Pause zu gönnen. Forgotten F1 Teams – Spyker F1 Welcome to Forgotten F1 Teams – a miniseries brought to you by Sidepodcast. We’re looking at those teams who deserve a place in the history books, whether it is for greatness, or mediocrity. Today we’re getting right up to date with our fifth team – Spyker F1. The roots of current Formula One team Force India F1 start way back in 1991 with Jordan Grand Prix. They have been through several iterations in recent times, and today we’re going to talk about just one of them. Jordan was bought by Midland F1 who were bought by Spyker. Spyker Cars are a relatively new Dutch automotive company, although the name dates back to the early 1900s. This new, modern version of Spyker was founded in 1999, and they build high performance sports cars. They did have a little motorsport experience, building and running GT cars. The key to their entrance into Formula 1 seems to be with Michiel Mol, a wealthy internet entrepreneur. He had previously sponsored Jos Verstappen, and wanted to further his involvement with the sport. His new deal saw him invest in Spyker Cars, to help them invest in F1, to the tune of over $100 million. He became their Director of F1 Racing. The deal with Midland was completed mid‐way through the 2006 season. Current drivers Christijan Albers and Tiego Monteiro were kept on, whilst the team set about trying to change their name. The regulations frown upon mid‐ season name changes, though, so Spyker stuck to being a title sponsor – Spyker MF1 Racing. -

Atlas F1 Magazine: title Technically Challenged: Renault Innovations in Formula One end title Technically Challenged: Renault Innovations in Formula One By Craig Scarborough, England Atlas F1 Technical Writer Since making their debut in the 1977 season, the Renault Formula One team have always been breaking new ground in terms of technology, ignoring the established routes and opting for innovative approaches. Atlas F1's Craig Scarborough reviews Renault's history of technological breakthroughs, from the first turbo engine to the innovative OPT system Renault have used motorsport to demonstrate their technology for many years. While other motorsport arenas have seen Renault's participation, it has been Formula One that has seen Renault's greatest input and most influential work, dating back to 1977 with the debut of an all French team from the tyres to the fuel, from the drivers to the chassis. The eighties dawned and Renault were winning races and supplying engines to other teams. A change of heart lead the team to leave Formula One briefly, returning with a new breed of engine, the V10, at the end of that decade. Such was Renault's dominance in the nineties they left F1 once more, only to return in the new millenium with another ground breaking engine, the wide angle V10. But this time as a full manufacturer, allowing Renault to demonstrate their undersung chassis technology as well as their engines. For nearly 30 years, Renault has used F1 as a platform to learn technology and show the world how it applies that technology. Before F1 Pre dating their involvement with Formula One, Renault had a motorsport history throughout the first half of the century dating right back to the Renault brothers original business in 1899. -
