With more than 1,500 years of cultivation, it is hard to argue against the Musique et Vin festival by holding an auction for special bottles donated by winemakers this belief. However, to The Wine Forum, Burgundy is more than just pure, scholarly wine. To us, whom we will be visiting and splitting the proceeds equally between these two worthy causes. Burgundy represents all that we as a group stand for—that is, that fine wine is not a right, but a And what a tour we have lined up! We commence with a Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru tasting privilege. Speaking with the region’s very top winemakers, they resolutely believe they are merely the current custodians of cherished plots, and that their role is to make the best wines possible at the Château du Clos de Vougeot on the final night of the 2014 Musique et Vin Festival. This and pass on the vineyard in the best condition possible to the next generation. Working the soil fabled region hosts 9 Grand Cru vineyards, the most of any in Burgundy. -

156Th HOSPICES DE BEAUNE WINE AUCTION 20Th
156th HOSPICES DE BEAUNE WINE AUCTION 20 th NOVEMBER 2016 Under the Presidency of Madame Virginie Ledoyen, Madame Khatia Buniatishvili, Madame Valérie Bonneton, Monsieur Claude Lelouche and Monsieur Eddy Mitchell For the benefits of the Foundation Cœur et Recherches and Foundation l’ARC As this press release is being prepared, The Hospices Civils de Beaune are going through a period of great sadness brought about by the sudden disappearance of their director, Mr Antoine JACQUET. Mr JACQUET dedicated 28 years of his professional life to this atypical establishment where he was capable of both managing the evolution and modernisation of the hospital and also its historical and viticultural heritage. The wine domain, the historic museum and the hospital activities have always been in great interaction. Successive earnings from the wine auctions have allowed the Hospices Civils de Beaune to offer themselves modern equipment adapted to each stage of their historical development. The latest work in progress, where Antoine JACQUET was at pains to ensure that all went well, is the restructuring and enlargement of the Hospital Centre. Work on this began in 2014. While the festivities linked to the Wine Auction on 20th November 2016 will be unchanged, everyone present will spare a thought for the man who presided over the destiny of this institution of which he was so proud. Bernadette AUNE 2 THE 2016 BURGUNDY VINTAGE 2016 An Amazing Turnaround Jasper Morris, Master of Wine and Christie’s Wine consultant, offers his first impressions about the 2016 vintage, with Ludivine Griveau, régisseur of the Hospices de Beaune domain. -

155Th HOSPICES DE BEAUNE WINE AUCTION an Unprecedented
155th HOSPICES DE BEAUNE WINE AUCTION An unprecedented record year revolving around generosity and know-how and which will never be forgotten. Last Sunday, the auction started with one minute of silence and the rendition of the French national anthem La Marseillaise in homage to the victims of terrorist attacks that took place in Paris less than 48 hours earlier. From the first bids, and throughout the sale, prices highly increased (+ 27.23% for the reds, + 32.75% for the whites compared to 2014). This increase can be explained by the exceptional quality of the 2015 vintage and the growing passion from collectors for great Burgundy wines. The auction, which was presided over by French news anchor Claire Chazal and French actor Christophe Lambert, proved to be a record breaker, with sales totaling more than €10,000,000 for the 575 barrels that were up for auction. The “Piece des Presidents”, a Corton Grand Cru Renardes also sold for a record €480,000, of which one third will go to support the families of the victims of terrorist attacks. Once again, Albert Bichot confirmed its position as the leading buyer at the auction with the purchase of 61 barrels for a total amount of €1,329,900. For over fifteen years now, the House of Albert Bichot has stood out for its participation at this world famous wine auction. Albéric Bichot considers that Albert Bichot’s role, as one of the most important names in Burgundy wine, is to promote the reputation of the region and its wines at an international level while, at the same time, supporting local or national charities.
