In 2015 negative global economic trends, political tensions, and sanctions policy against countries that are trade partners of Kazakhstan continued to exert its influence on the main basic positions of Kazakhstan’s exports and the overall performance in the country’s economy. In the reporting period, the pace of the national economy development fell to 1.2%, in 2014 this figure was 4.3%. In January-December 2015 the foreign trade turnover of Kazakhstan amounted to 76 billion US dollars and decreased by 37.1% compared to 2014, including exports - by 42.5%. Trade turnover with Russia and Belarus, which accounts for over 50% of the volume of rail transportation decreased by 27.8% and 37.8%, respectively. Generally this had a negative impact on operation of the transport and logistics sector of the country, especially in a traditional for JSC «NC «KTZ» segment of export shipments of general cargo mass. So, due to decrease of world prices and of demand for iron ore on the world market, mainly in the Chinese market, a shipper of such cargo - Sokolov-Sarbaiskoye mining and processing production association - during 2015 exported to China the iron ore in the amount of 190 thousand tons against 2.8 million tons in 2014 and comparing with the level of 2013, this figure had decreased by 30 times. -

Mr Chris Conway (Translink): Good morning. The Chairperson (Miss McIlveen): You are both very welcome this morning. If you would like to open the session with a short report, we will follow up with some questions. Mr Conway: OK. Thank you, Chair and members, for the opportunity to meet you today. You will have read the brief that we sent you, and I am just going to touch on a couple of points in my opening statement before I hand back to the Chair. Translink is a public corporation that was established under the Transport Act (Northern Ireland) 1967. Its subsidiary companies are Ulsterbus, Metro and Northern Ireland Railways, which has responsibility for the operation and the infrastructure of the railways. Translink operates 13,000 bus and train services each day. It carries over one and a half million passenger journeys per week and takes around 80,000 young people to school every day. We have an extensive fleet of buses and trains that require ongoing servicing and maintenance. We also manage 300 miles of rail track and associated structures, valued at over £3 billion. -

Research and Information Service Research Paper 7 October 2020 Des McKibbin Decarbonising Transport in Northern Ireland NIAR 289-20 This paper provides an overview of potential policies for decarbonising road and rail transport in Northern Ireland in support of UK wide commitments to reach net zero Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. It has been prepared for the NI Assembly Infrastructure Committee to inform their discussion on potential areas of inquiry. Both the UK and EU have signed up to international climate change obligations, such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. The 2015 Paris Agreement, a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, has been signed by 194 states and the European Union The UK has ratified the Paris Agreement separately from the EU and has committed to upholding its Paris Agreement obligations post Brexit. The Climate Change Act 2008 (2008 Act) originally established long term statutory targets for the UK to achieve an 80% reduction in GHG by 2050 against a 1990 baseline.
