Medical Research Archives The Vascular Flora of Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park, Virginia ABSTRACT The vascular flora of Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park, Virginia consists of 602 species within 343 genera and 123 families. Of these 519 are native (86%) while 83 are not native to the region. Thirty two species are listed as rare or endangered in Virginia including two small populations of Bartonia verna at False Cape State Park found nowhere else in the state. Several species with southern affinities reach their northern range limit on the Back Bay region, whereas only two northern taxa, Hudsonia tomentosa and Myrica pensylvania are near their southern limit. Non-native varieties of Phragmites australis are a major component of the natural vegetation and pose a threat to native taxa. Each taxonomic entry in the checklist is accompanied by an annotation which includes the locality and habitat in which each taxon occurs, frequence of occurrence, range extensions, rarity status, and pertinent synonyms. Thus, more studies investigating the safety of V. polyanthes aqueous extract before the use are needed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the toxicity, cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of V. polyanthes leaves aqueous extract using the Artemia salina and Allium cepa assays. For the A. salina assay, three groups of 10 larvae were exposed to V. polyanthes leaves aqueous extract at the concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 mg/ml. For the A. cepa assay, 5 onion bulbs were exposed to V. polyanthes leaves aqueous extract at 10, 20, and 40 mg/ml, and then submitted to macroscopic and microscopic analysis. As result it was identified a toxicity and cytotoxicity ofV. polyanthes dependent on the extract concentration. -

Destaca-se nos diferentes domínios fitogeográficos brasileiros em riqueza e uso, como na Amazônia, porém, a Amazônia meridional ainda foi pouco amostrada. Desta forma, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar uma listagem para as espécies de Leguminosae depositadas no Herbário da Amazônia Meridional - HERBAM, Alta Floresta, Mato Grosso. As identificações dos espécimes de Leguminosae depositados na coleção do HERBAM foram conferidas com base em revisões taxonômicas e imagens do New York Botanical Garden em março de 2015. Leguminosae está representada por 153 espécies distribuídas em 59 gêneros. As espécies Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J.F.Macbr. e Hymenaea parvifolia Huber estão ameaçadas de extinção, na categoria Vulnerável. -
