For this reason in the years 2008–2010 a study was initiated on the phenology of 8 dominant Pimplinae species in apple orchards and on their edges, which included shrubberies and roadside avenues of trees and shrubs. Slightly higher numbers of Pimplinae were recorded in orchards compared to their edges. At strong correlation was observed between the counts of Pimplinae in both habitats. The preference of selec- tion of orchards by Pimplinae was observed in the autumn period, while no such preference was found in the spring or summer months. Analyses showed that flowering plants in the orchard edges such asTilia cordata, Symphoricarpos albus, Cirsium arvense and Galium aparine may have attracted Pimplinae to the orchards.

Lepidoptera in Cheshire in 2002 A Report on the Micro-Moths, Butterflies and Macro-Moths of VC58 S.H. Hind, S. McWilliam, B.T. Shaw, S. Farrell and A. Wander Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society November 2003 1 1. Introduction Welcome to the 2002 report on lepidoptera in VC58 (Cheshire). This is the second report to appear in 2003 and follows on from the release of the 2001 version earlier this year. Hopefully we are now on course to return to an annual report, with the 2003 report planned for the middle of next year. Plans for the ‘Atlas of Lepidoptera in VC58’ continue apace. We had hoped to produce a further update to the Atlas but this report is already quite a large document. We will, therefore produce a supplementary report on the Pug Moths recorded in VC58 sometime in early 2004, hopefully in time to be sent out with the next newsletter. As usual, we have produced a combined report covering micro-moths, macro- moths and butterflies, rather than separate reports on all three groups. Doubtless observers will turn first to the group they are most interested in, but please take the time to read the other sections. Hopefully you will find something of interest. Many thanks to all recorders who have already submitted records for 2002. Without your efforts this report would not be possible. Please keep the records coming! This request also most definitely applies to recorders who have not sent in records for 2002 or even earlier. It is never too late to send in historic records as they will all be included within the above-mentioned Atlas when this is produced.

Atalanta (Juli 2004) 35(1/2): 133-140, Wurzburg, ISSN 0171-0079 On the fauna of casebearers from the centre of the European part of Russia (Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae) by V a s s il y V. A n ik in & Ir in a V. S h m yto v a received 30.1.2004 Abstract: 47 species of the casebearers (Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae) are recorded from the centre of the European part of Russia. The first investigation in the Lepidoptera from the centre of the European part of Russia was made about 200 years ago. Inspite of it the fauna of Coleophoridae of this territory still has been almost completely unknown until present time. In the course of our study, collections were made from 1984 to 1999 in some parts of Kaluga, Smolensk, Oryel provinces (I. V. Shmytova leg.) and Tula province (L. V. Bolshakov, C. A. Rjabov, A. F. Lakomov leg.). This territory is mainly composed of forest as well as forest-steppe zones (fig. 1). Kaluga, Smolensk and some regions of Tula provinces are typical for the occurence of coniferous (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), broad-leaved (Quercus robur L., Ulmus L, Tilia cordata Mill., Fraxinus excel sior L.) and small-leaved forests (Betula L., Populus tremula L., Alnus Mill., Salix L.). Pines (Pinus sylvestris L.) are spread here on the sandy lands. The elements of steppe flora are met mainly in Tula and Oryel provinces, but along the valleys of rivers they penetrate to the north and north-west. It consists of species of Festuca L., Koeleria Pers., Stipa L., Phleum L., Flelictitrichon Bess., Poa L., Ranunculus L, Galium L., Anem one L., Salvia L.

(Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) Ignác Richter Abstract. Present article brings information about new findings of case–bearing moths (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) from the Balkan Peninsula. Several species of the genus Coleophora were recorded for the first time for some of the Balkan countries. Coleophora herniariae, C. daglarica and C. albipennella are recorded as new for the fauna of Europe. The description Coleophora vardarella Richter, sp. nov., from Macedonia is given. Keywords. Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae, Coleophora vardarella sp. nov., Coleophora herniariae, Coleophora daglarica, Coleophora albipennella, Macedonia, the Balkan Peninsula. Author’s address. Ignác Richter | Malá Čausa 289, SK–971 01, Slovakia E-mail: [email protected] Introduction Intensive faunistic research of small moths (“Microlepidoptera”) of the Balkan Peninsula continues for several decades already and lasts until the recent times. The family Coleophoridae Bruand, 1850 belongs to the less known moths of the Balkans, therefore our focus has been oriented towards this large Lepidoptera family. Faunistic and systematic studies of this moth group in the Balkans resulted in interesting findings. One of the most important recent works about the genera Coleophora Hübner, 1822 and Goniodoma Zeller, 1849 of the Balkan Peninsula is the contribution of Richter & Pastorális (2015). Results of surveys conducted by seni- or author, executed in the years 2010–2014 at different sites of Croatia, Montene- gro, Macedonia, and Bulgaria were presented.

Biologie animală, Tom LIII, 2007 LEAF-MINING INSECTS ENCOUNTERED IN THE FOREST RESERVE OF HÂRBOANCA, VASLUI COUNTY Alina-Maria STOLNICU “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, Iasi, the Faculty of Biology, Carol I Blvd., no. 22, 700505, Iaşi, Romania e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. As a result of a series of studies conducted within the Forest Reserve of Hârboanca (Vaslui) between June 2005 and October 2006, there were identified 60 species of leaf-mining insects, belonging to 14 families, from three different orders: Lepidoptera (83%), Diptera (12%) and Hymenoptera (5%). The “mines” caused by the larvae of these insects were identified on 34 different species of hosting plants, mostly wooden plants. The leaf-mining Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera larvae are more likely to grow on wooden plants, while those belonging to the Diptera order prefer herbaceous plants. One of the species, Phyllonorycter issikii (Kumata) found here was signaled for the first time in Romanian fauna, while other ten species were encountered for the first time in Moldavia. Keywords: leaf-mining insects, Forest Reserve of Hârboanca, Romanian, fauna.

  • Summary of Cheshire Moths: 2008-2013
CHESHIRE (VICE COUNTY 58) SUMMARY OF CHESHIRE MOTHS: 2008-2013 Authors: Steve H. Hind and Steve Holmes Date: December 2015 Summary of Cheshire Moths 2008-2013 Introduction With the absence of an annual moth report for six years and following publication of the 2014 report earlier this year, we have attempted to bring together some of the main changes to the counties moth populations since the last county report for 2007. Individual Micro-moth reports were published for 2008 and 2009 in the Journal of the Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society, Volumes 133 & 134, for Sessions 2009 & 2010 of the Annual Report & Proceedings but this is the first report to include the counties macro-moths for those years. Unfortunately, the amount of work required to produce a similar type of document to the 2014 report would have taken well over a year or more to complete and as such a more selective approach has been taken; this translates to producing an account for just those species that have either: been reported on very few occasions, or have undergone significant changes, either in terms of distribution or population Summary No fewer than seven new macro-moth and 23 micro-moth species appeared for the first time in Cheshire during the period covered by this publication; an astonishing number brought about by Moth recording continuing to increase during the period, especially of micro-moths. We received a record 8,200 records of micro-moths in 2008, yet this more than doubled to 17,700 in 2013. There are a number of references, particularly within the accounts relating to macro-moths, where mention is made of either: the nth Cheshire record, or only ‘n’ records this century, or only ‘n’ Cheshire records To clarify these comments, they all relate to known, submitted, validated records within the County database.

Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe.

  • Microlepidoptera in Nederland, Vooral in 2007-2010 Met Een Terugblik Op 30 Jaar Faunistisch Onderzoek
