Elle allait enfin pouvoir se consacrer pleinement à ses élèves du Conservatoire de Paris, où elle enseigna de 1974 à 1992, fumer tranquillement les cigarettes extra fines qu'elle affectionnait et éviter de jeter son piano par la fenêtre comme il lui arrivait d'en avoir l'envie, au faîte d'une vie harassée de travail, ainsi que le confiait au Monde, en 2003, cette perfectionniste à qui sa grand-mère italienne avait dit une chose qu'elle n'a jamais oubliée : "Quoi qu'il arrive, si tu devais un jour balayer les rues, n'oublie pas les coins." Dix-sept ans après ce salut à son public, c'est une révérence définitive que vient de tirer celle qui fut une Périchole impayable autant qu'une redoutable Brünnhilde, victime d'une de ces maladies qui lui auront empoisonné une partie de la vie et dont elle ne se sera pas cachée - pas plus que de ses déboires amoureux et professionnels -, comme en attestent ses Mémoires écrits à la bonne franquette, A la scène, à la ville (Actes Sud, 1997), une édition revue et augmentée de La Vie et l'amour d'une femme (Fayard, 1982). Crespin parlait de ses cancers (le premier avait été diagnostiqué en 1978) avec une faconde qui n'était que l'envers du décor. Car cette rigolote de service, qui pouvait à l'occasion se révéler intimidante, était en fait une timide qui se cachait volontiers derrière ses poses de lionne, de diva à chapeaux, fourrures et caniches. -

There is detailed discussion of smock racing and pedestrianism during the eighteenth- and nineteenth-centuries, but attention is focused on the period from 1921, when international and then domestic governing bodies were formed and athletics .became established as a legitimate sporting activity for women. -

Germaine Lubin nació en 1890 en París, ciudad a la que regresó con su madre tras una corta estancia en Cayenne, donde su padre practicaba la medicina. El propio Doctor Lubin volvió al poco tiempo a la capital de Francia movido por el deseo de que sus hijos recibieran allí la educación pertinente. La educación de Germaine fue estricta pero repleta de comprensión por parte de sus padres. FOREWORD Hat-making is an art which may be acquired by any one possessing patience and ordinary ability. To make a hat for the trade is not as difficult as to make one for an individual; neither is it so high a phase of art. Many rules are given for crown-height, brim-width, and color, as being suited to different types of faces, but they are so often misleading that it seems best to consider only a few, since the becomingness of a hat almost invariably depends upon minor characteristics of the individual for which there are no rules. A girl or woman with auburn hair may wear grays—gray-green, cream color, salmon pink; a touch of henna with gold or orange; mulberry if the eyes are dark. The woman with dark hair and blue or dark eyes may wear any color if the skin is clear. One having dark hair and eyes and a sallow skin may find golden brown, a pale yellow or cream color becoming—possibly a mulberry if just the right depth. A hat with slightly drooping brim faced with some shade of rose will add color to the cheeks. No reds should be worn unless the skin is clear. -

The reality lies in the middle, in which many individuals participated in resistance or collaboration in a variety of degrees. I argue that composing, performing, and listening to music are substantial resistant acts, using the resistance movements in Occupied Paris as a case study. This study has two overarching goals. -

Elles y aspirent, filles d’une IIe République d’avant-garde, mais dépendantes des mâles de leur famille depuis le code Napoléon. Plébéiennes, bourgeoises, aristocrates, femmes de lettres ou d’aventure, elles accompagnent par leurs aspirations les ambitions politiques des suffragettes d’outre-Manche. Mais le sang masculin répandu pendant la Première Guerre mondiale leur impose l’exigence du modèle patriarcal de la famille à travers l’autorité d’une presse presque officielle qui leur en trace la voie. Épouse de Jean Moro, directeur de L’Éclaireur de Nice et du Sud-Est, la féministe de combat Berthe Mendès128, stigmatisant toute manœuvre abortive, même consécutive à un viol de guerre, devient propagandiste d’un devoir de maternité qui symbolise ce retournement de tendance. Dans les Années folles s’affirme pourtant une femme nouvelle à la silhouette stylisée, croquée en Suzanne Lenglen, symbole dont la jupette s’envole sur les courts de tennis. Les volutes de fumée des « flappers »129 au comptoir des bars, le jersey Chanel et les pyjamas de plage sur la Croisette, l’exotisme sensuel qui ondule le pagne de Joséphine Baker, les spencers de Violette Morris130 provoquent les bien-pensants.
