Facebook ads, therefore, have an essential role in contemporary political communication, not only because of their extensive use in international political campaigns, but also because they address intriguing questions about the regulation of disinformation on social networking sites. This research employs a corpus of 14,684 Facebook ads published by the major national political parties during their campaigns leading up to the two Spanish general elections held in 2019. A manual content analysis was performed on all the visually identical ads so as to identify those containing disinformation and those denouncing it. The topics addressed in these ads were then exam- ined.

  • Political Accountability, Communication and Democracy: a Fictional Mediation?
Türkiye İletişim Araştırmaları Dergisi • Yıl/Year: 2018 • Özel Sayı, ss/pp. e1-e12 • ISSN: 2630-6220 DOI: 10.17829/turcom.429912 Political Accountability, Communication and Democracy: A Fictional Mediation? Siyasal Hesap Verebilirlik, İletişim ve Demokrasi: Medyalaştırılmış bir Kurgu mu? * Ekmel GEÇER 1 Abstract This study, mostly through a critical review, aims to give the description of the accountability in political communication, how it works and how it helps the addressees of the political campaigns to understand and control the politicians. While doing this it will also examine if accountability can help to structure a democratic public participation and control. Benefitting from mostly theoretical and critical debates regarding political public relations and political communication, this article aims (a) to give insights of the ways political elites use to communicate with the voters (b) how they deal with accountability, (c) to learn their methods of propaganda, (d) and how they structure their personal images. The theoretical background at the end suggests that the politicians, particularly in the Turkish context, may sometimes apply artificial (unnatural) communication methods, exaggeration and desire sensational narrative in the media to keep the charisma of the leader and that the accountability and democratic perspective is something to be ignored if the support is increasing. Keywords: Political Communication, Political Public Relations, Media, Democracy, Propaganda, Accountability.

  • The Diary of a Sceptic (Pdf)
TERESA GIMÉNEZ BARBAT THE DIARY OF A SCEPTIC The Diary of a Sceptic Teresa Giménez Barbat (Introduction by Albert Boadella) Translated by Sandra Killeen © Teresa Giménez Barbat, 2018 © Introduction by Albert Boadella, 2018 © Translated by Sandra Killeen, 2018 © Cover illustration by José María Beroy, 2018 Editorial coordination, page layout and front cover: Editorial Funambulista INTRODUCTION I’m going to try and write as comprehensibly and naturally as Te- resa does in the pages that follow this prologue. The first thing that springs to mind is that this is a book that takes numerous risks. Its diary format is a risk on the current writing scene. Such a realistic narrative form implies the likelihood of a minority reception right from the outset. The elimination of any fictional perspective is cur- rently a sort of literary suicide. Anyone who writes a book free of fantasies could be said to walk a fine line with their readers. The majority want to read simulations. The book also has a feminist air to it, which together with the ostentation of scepticism may initially cause readers to shy away from these pages. Obviously, I write this hypothesis from a masculine point of view and in it I’m attempting to express my first impression when the book I had in my hands was fresh out of the oven. Nonetheless, as I knew the writer person- ally I was inclined to take the theoretical risk. I have to admit here, that I opened the pages of this account out of curiosity about my friend, though this didn’t prevent a certain degree of scepticism on my part and a slight willingness to be distracted when faced with the first undigested page.
