JCCI SINGAPORE FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING APPEAL

First and foremost, thank you for your continued support to the fundraising campaigns of JCCI Singapore Foundation c/o Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Singapore for the past years.

The Foundation was established in May 1990, as first of its kind of a Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in foreign countries, with the objectives in supporting the development of culture, art, sports and education in the local community. Since its establishment 30 years ago, the Foundation has provided S$9.68 million worth of sponsorships to different organizations in line with its supporting objects. The fund donated to the Foundation as an approved and valid IPC, continues to qualify for concessionary tax treatment for donor’s tax assessment in the subsequent year.

We look forward to the continued support from JCCI members in enabling JCCI Singapore Foundation to continue providing meaningful returns to local community. Sincere thanks for your generosity.

JCCI SCHOLARSHIPS 2018

MS. DANA LEE SI MIN Question to Dana: In what ways has this scholarship program helped to Waseda University better your understanding about Japan, its culture and people?

September 2019 - July 2020 This scholarship has definitely granted me a chance to understand so much more about Japanese culture and lifestyle at an intimate level. As I had many chances to hang out with both Japanese and international students in a group, we would often share aspects of Japanese culture that we find puzzling and our Japanese friends would always try to explain and guide us. At times, we would even discuss about certain customs in Japan that I realized I had just naturally learnt to accept without much thought. Hence, these cross-cultural exchanges were very rewarding as they helped me to see my living experiences in retrospect and reflect on my interactions with both Japanese society and its people. Living off-campus, I was also able to observe the day-to-day lives of Japanese households. Currently, the pandemic has led the streets to become more quiet than usual and I was initially worried that there would be prolonged panic-buying with the increased uncertainty. Fortunately, the residents here were calm and bought only what they needed without hoarding necessities and food supplies.

MR. RAINER KWAN MUN HIN

International Christian University Questio n to Rainer : With this scholarship experience in Japan, how you September 2019 - June 2020 would want to bridge yourself between Singapore & Japan in future?

I intend to remain involved in the Singapore-Japan community and contribute by working at a Japanese company, whether it be in Japan or Singapore, or by participating in volunteer activities. I really enjoy speaking Japanese and I hope that I would have a chance to continue using the language on a regular basis. I may even dabble in translation work in my free time, should an opportunity arise. I really enjoyed talking to people about Singapore during my time in Japan and I was surprised by the number of people who have lived/studied in Singapore before. Also, I would like to promote more intercultural exchange between Singaporean and Japanese students as I feel that such opportunities are still relatively limited.
