WEDNESDAY – JULY 3 – GUNPOWDER S.P. – 5E MW Partial loop in the Hereford area of Gunpowder State Park. Some hills, two stream crossings (same stream out and back). Trail rough in spots upstream from Falls Road but with picturesque view of white water rapids. Meet at 10 am. I-83 north to exit 27 Mt. Carmel Road. Turn right to dead end at York Road. Left on York Road past Hereford High School to first left at Bunker Hill Road. Proceed under I-83, continue after road turns to gravel. WEDNESDAY – JULY 3 – HARFORD RD TO JERUSALEM MILL & BACK – 7M (8.3M TO COVERED BR) Hike along the Gunpowder River between Harford & Baltimore Counties. Some hills & stream crossings. LEAVE: 9.45 AM Carney P & R. From I-695(Balto. Beltway) exit 31A (if traveling eastbound) to Harford Rd; left at signal; .5m to parking lot on left. WEDNESDAY – JULY 3 – APPALACHIAN TRAIL ACROSS MD SERIES – 9H ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED One of a series of 9 hikes on the Appalachian Trail across Maryland. An out and back hike of a total of 9 miles going south from Pen Mar Park to Raven Rocks Shelter. Total elevation gain is 1,200’ with the longest climb of 600’ over .8 mile. Trail is very rocky in places. Pace averages 2.5 -2.8 MPH. LEAVE: 8:45 A.M. from Howard County Fairgrounds, take I-70 Exit 80 south on MD- 32, 0.25 mile to west on MD-144, 0.5 mile to fairgrounds. LEADER: Beth Cooper [email protected] or 410 - 461-3659. CARPOOL COST: $5.00. THURSDAY-SUNDAY – JULY 4-7 – CRANBERRY WILDERNESS, WV BACKPACK – 21/24M ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED Route TBD. Short 1st and 4th days with longer days in between. Creek and riverside camping. Pre-register with LEADER: Dorothy Guy at [email protected] or 410-744-6057. CARPOOL COST: $25.00. SATURDAY – JULY 6 – YORK, PA: LAKE REDMAN CIRCUIT HIKE – 10/11 M/H ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED This 10-11 mile hike loop around the entire Lake Redman in the York, PA, will pass under I-83 twice using drainage passages. Hikers should bring a headlamp or small flashlight; water shoes, and a small towel to dry their feet. We will hike at a pace of about 2.5 –2.7 mph and have lunch overlooking the lake. The total elevation change is approximately 1400 feet. [If water conditions do not permit safe passage through the drainage conduits, this hike will be changed to an out-and-back hike.] There will be an optional stop at Browns Farm Market after the hike for ice cream sundaes. LEAVE: 8:30 a.m. from the Timonium Park & Ride, north lot. From I-83 exit 16B, turn left onto Greenspring, continue on Deereco; go past the Kiss and Ride entrance, then turn right at the Park and Ride sign.
