The Membership Committee also identifies opportunities for new units. Every unit should identify a membership point-of-contact to work with the District Membership Committee and provide that name and contact information to the Vice Chairman for Membership. Three Annual Major events overseen by the Membership Committee and supported by District Commissioners include: Fall Join Scouting Night (JSN), Webelos-to-Scout transition (moving Webelos II from Packs to Troops), and Spring Recruiting, especially for new Lion and Tiger Cub Scouts to join packs. The goal of Fall Join Scouting Night is for each Cub Pack to further develop new Lion, Tiger and Wolf Dens and to increase overall membership. The Goal of Webelos-to-Scout transition is to ensure 100% of Webelos register with a Boy Scout troop. The goal of Spring Recruiting is for each Cub Pack to develop new Lion and Tiger Dens from boys and girls who will be entering Kindergarten and First Grade in the Fall, add new boys and girls to Wolf Dens from boys and girls graduating from First Grade, and include them in their Summertime Activity Program.

  • Scoutspeak 101 November 2020
Washington Crossing Council Scout-Speak 101 A guide to help you understand the various terms, phrases, program components and acronyms that are used in the BSA program. Organization COUNCIL – A council is a voluntary association of citizens, including representatives of organizations that are chartered by the Boy Scouts of America, to promote the Scouting program within a geographic area. There are four major functions involved in achieving the purposes of a council: membership, fund development, program, and unit service. These four functions and all other responsibilities are accomplished in each council in a manner that is consistent with local conditions and circumstances. DISTRICT – Unlike councils, which establish policies and programs, districts carry out the programs and policies of the council in their respective territories. For the purpose of unit service, program administration, membership, and fund development, the council territory is divided geographically into several districts, as determined by the executive board. The supervision of Scouting in each district is exercised by the council through a district committee consisting of all council members residing within the district, chartered organization representatives, and district members at large. KEY 3 - The Council Key 3 consists of the Council President, Council Commissioner, and Scout Executive. They meet informally as necessary to ensure proper coordination of the work of the council. They furnish liaisons between the commissioner staff and the various committees of the council. They may also provide proposals and recommendations to, but in no way usurp the authority of, the executive board or executive committee of the board. November 20, 2020 Page 1 of 16 Council Support The thinking here is that Scouts and volunteers see only 20 percent of what councils provide to members.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PARK & PLANNING THE MARYLAND-NATIONAL CAPITAL PARK AND PLANNING COMMISSION 8787 Georgia Avenue Silver Spring, Maryland 20910-3760 3/31/05 MCPB Item No: ____ March 23, 2005 MEMORANDUM TO: Montgomery County Planning Board VIA: Jeff Zyontz, Chief, Countywide Planning Division John E. Hench, Ph.D., PPRA Unit Supervisor, CWP Division FROM: Lyn Coleman, Trail Planning Supervisor (301-650-4391) SUBJECT: STAFF DRAFT RACHEL CARSON GREENWAY TRAIL CORRIDOR PLAN – APPROVAL TO PRINT FOR PUBLIC HEARING (No Public Testimony Will Be Taken) _______________________________________________________________________ STAFF RECOMMENDATION APPROVAL to publish for purposes of Public Hearing, tentatively scheduled in May. BACKGROUND The Rachel Carson Greenway, shown in FIGURE 1, stretches for 25 miles from the southern boundary of Montgomery County northward to the Patuxent River State Park. The Countywide Park Trails Plan (1998) identified the need to study this corridor in more detail. In 2003, the Planning Board included the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail Corridor Plan in the 2004-2006 Trails Work Program. In July 2004, the Planning Board approved the plan objectives, plan schedule and the public participation element of the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail Corridor Plan. In accord with the plan schedule approved by the Planning Board, staff has since sponsored two community meetings on plan issues and opportunities (one in the southern part of the corridor, the other in the northern part). Staff has also met with the Sandy Spring Civic Association, the Board of the Sandy Spring Museum, the Neighbors of Northwest Branch and Sandy Spring Green Space. Those attending the above meetings generally expressed support for the concept of an interpretive- based 25-mile greenway.

The Patriot Press http://www.ncacbsa.org/patriot/press Volume 21 April 2018 Issue 04 Patriot District National Capital Area Council Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby 2018: Another Great Day of Cub Scout Fun! The annual Patriot District Pinewood Derby – the Super Bowl of Cub Scouting – was held on Saturday, March 10, at Living Savior Lutheran Church in Fairfax Station. The event was once again a smashing success, with 157 Cub Scouts from 18 District Packs competing. From the smiles and sheer volume of raucous laughter, clapping, and Scouting-mayhem, it was evident that everyone, from the youngest Cub Scout to the most, um, “seasoned” Scout leaders and adults, had a fabulous time. Cub Scouts competed in either Speed or Show categories within their respective Den groups: Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and Arrow of Light. Participating Cub Scouts personified good sportsmanship throughout the day, and it was truly inspiring to see these young future leaders act in such a mature and honorable way. Joining the competitors were highly energized parents, siblings, and friends who arrived in waves as the day progressed to share in the fun and cheer on their Cub Scouts. PWD 2018: The Largest Such Event in the Last Eight Years Leading the planning and execution of this exciting event again this year was Pete Griffiths, Patriot District Pinewood Derby Chairman, serving in his eighth year as Race Director and track/timing engineer. Clearly the highlight of the day, ALL day, was the entertainment provided by the Masters of Ceremony tag-team of Andy Chaves (Pack 1101 Cubmaster) and Joe Margraf (Troop 1346 Assistant Scoutmaster), who captivated Cub Scouts and spectators alike with their unique and masterful, non-stop, always-stay-on-your-toes shtick.
