The Show is run under the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of Australia Inc Show Regulations. (for regulations please visit http://welshnsw.homestead.com/WPCSshowRules_waivers.pdf ) Each breed will be run under the rules of their relevant Society rules & regulations. 2. All horses/ponies entered in Youngstock classes must be registered with the respective breed/colour Society for each class entered. 3. Foals must be registered or eligible to be shown depending on the Regulations of the breed ring they are showing in, Arabian & Arabian Derivative and coloured foals must be registered with a number allocated (proof may be required) 4. General 1. The exhibitor shall at all times abide by these regulations and other rules and conditions as laid down by the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of Australia Inc. (WP&CS). 2. Show entries without full payment will not be accepted 3. No exhibitor may show an exhibit bred by, or leased from the judge or his family in the ring in which the judge is officiating. 4. All exhibits must be shown in the name of the recorded owner or lessee. 5. Insurance Exhibitors entering exhibits do so entirely at their own risk; it is a condition of entry that no liability of any kind attaches itself to the WP&CS, the Show Sub-committee or members in any respect whatsoever. 6. Show sub-committee role & responsibilities 1. Every exhibitor or competitor shall be bound by and observe the decisions of the Show Sub-committee. 2. The Show Sub-committee reserves the right to adjudicate upon entry or upon any dispute and to make any determination upon any matter relevant to the show. This decision shall be final and not subject to appeal of any kind. 3. The Show Sub-committee reserves the right to disqualify any exhibit that, in its opinion, appears to be in poor condition at the time of showing. 4. The Show Sub-committee reserves the right to combine classes if there are insufficient entries. 7. Conduct of exhibitors 1. Once a class has commenced no exhibit may leave the ring unless so instructed by the ring official. 2. There is to be no change of handler once a class has commenced without the permission of the judge. 3. The judge’s decision is final. 4. Rings will not be held for handlers with the exception of Championships/Supremes. 8. Protests. An exhibitor may lodge a protest against a competitor/judge. Protests must be lodged in writing with the Show Secretary within 3 hours of the disputed action, accompanied by a fee of $100, which will be forfeited if not upheld. In the first instance protests must be dealt with by the Show Sub-committee which may refer the matter to the Committee of Management. Any person who has a protest lodged against him or her has the right of reply. Any expenses incurred by any party to the said protests shall be borne by that party. 9. The onus is on the exhibitor to ensure that he/she has sufficient handlers for all exhibits. Rings will be held for Championship/Supreme clashes. 10. All exhibits must enter & leave the ring at a walk 11. Cancellation Policy – in accordance with the WPCS of A Inc Extreme Weather & Cancellation Policy, if a Code Red Catastrophic Fire Warning/Flood or travel warnings/disease outbreaks is predicted this event shall be cancelled. Refund Policy – (i) If an event has commenced there shall be no refunds.(ii) If an event is cancelled prior to the commencement of an event – costs incurred by the Show Committee prior to the event will be paid & remaining funds will be reimbursed to the exhibitor if the amount per exhibitor is $2.00 or more (iii) If an event is postponed, entry fees will not be refunded without a written request from the exhibitor within 7 days of the notification of postponement. Coming from a horse orientated background this was my life dream, to own one of these majestic horses. I am now the proud owner of 8 purebred Shires, and have bred many during the past 10 years. The Shire Horses being bred by The Shires of Luscombe, just north of Tamborine in Queensland are from very famous shire bloodlines. Our breeding mares are “Cedars Annabella” a black 18 hand mare. “Cedars Natasha” a brown 17 hand mare. Our Imported English Mares are “Aldreth Lady Jane” and “Middlecott Victoria”. Jane is a bay with four white feet and stands 16.2 hands, while Victoria is grey and stands 19 hands. Our stallion is ”Luscombe Whats Wanted”, Ted for short. His dam, Middlecott Victoria was imported in foal with him in 1996. His sire is the black shire stallion Ruskington Harvester. Ted is the only grey shire stallion in Australia and stands 18 hands. He has sired many superb shire foals since he started standing at stud 2 years ago. “Annabella” and “Natasha” are both out of imported mares and by the imported shire Stallion “Ladbrook Edward”, who stood 19 hands and was a winner of many titles and ribbons at the Sydney Royal. Now deceased “Ladbrook Edward” was imported as a nine month old colt from England.

Many excellent submissions saluted the merit of a NHTR and a few raised concerns. I have included updates in use/available internationally which can provide solutions for these concerns. As Australia is a long way behind global practice we are non complaint or not recognised in some areas BUT we are in the enviable position now to benefit directly from 20+ years of global experiences with troubleshooting having been done. We now have access to some excellent applications for the NHTR to use as its base. The EU’s levels of equine ID, traceability, health etc. are long standing and truly international. I have attached a cross section of today’s global practices, who benefits, myths of double registration, Privacy concerns and how an NHTR can streamline and simplify the entire Equine sector for the 1 horse owner through the equine disciplines, associations, businesses and ancillary services. One example of a current costing is below as a guide. Australia does not need to be behind globally if we opt not to be. Horses must be shown in their appropriate class, according to this list. If you can't find a breed here or have a question, contact Show Manager Michelle Masters at [email protected]. This convinced us that Australian Shires needed new genetics to underpin the quality that we were seeking from Shires. Philip Moss, a Shire Breeder that we had visited on a number of occasions was the catalyst for our decision to import a quality mare. Philip, who judged at the 2003 Royal Sydney Show expressed his view at a seminar that some Australian Shire Breeders had addressed the question of breeding quality Shires by using semen from premium quality UK based Shire Stallions eg Trelow Father Abraham, Walton Supreme and Nottage Trump Card. He now felt it was necessary to address the question of the quality of females in Australia. Mr Moss’ thoughts and comments after seeing Shires in Australia were similar views to ours. It was apparent to both Marylou and myself that since the original importation of 13 mares to Australia from the UK in the mid 80’s and a single mare (in foal) from New Zealand in the mid 90’s that there had been no fresh female genetics available to us. Hence, our decision to import a high quality mare that will set us on the path of quality breeding. The main qualities that we are looking for are feet, legs and feather which are the critical points of Shire horses.
