Every horse foaled before 1st August in any year shall be deemed to be one year old on that date. This shall also apply to Imported horses. An Arabian Derivative Breed is the collective term for horses registered in the Anglo Arabian, Arabian Pony, Arabian Riding Pony, Quarab, Arabian Stock Horse, Arabian Warmblood, Partbred Arabian and Half Arabian registries. Board means the Board of Directors of the Arabian Horse Society of Australia Ltd. Breeder of a horse means the owner of its dam at the time of the service of the dam by the sire of that horse except where the dam is leased at the time of service in which case the lessee is the breeder. -

List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony". There are also a number of "color breed", sport horse, and gaited horse registries for horses with various phenotypes or other traits, which admit any animal fitting a given set of physical characteristics, even if there is little or no evidence of the trait being a true-breeding characteristic. Other recording entities or specialty organizations may recognize horses from multiple breeds, thus, for the purposes of this article, such animals are classified as a "type" rather than a "breed". Editor note: I am typing this newsletter with one finger due to the fact I broke my arm! Annual Championship…is underway! As of this writing division A and the mini division have been judged! With any luck, the show will be completed by the end of July and the book will go to print in early August! MEPSA is an open, photo show organization. You do not need to pay any membership fees to show. No registration needed. Just send your models, return envelope and your show fee, and you will be competing with some of the best. Not quite there yet? MEPSA also has a Novice division, designed to help coach new MEPSA showers to reach the level they need to achieve to be successful in the open division! The 7, 8 and 9 October 2020 Today, the SOMMET DE L’ELEVAGE, Europe’s foremost livestock show, can confirm that this year’s edition will be open for business, the 7, 8 & 9 October in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The show’s organisers, while continuing to monitor the situation, note the recent progress in the fight to overcome the COVID-19 epidemic in France. As a result of which, the SOMMET DE L’ELEVAGE will be open for business on the scheduled dates of 7, 8 & 9 October 2020. “We are currently working hard and hand in hand with the local and national authorities as to the measures that we need to put in place to guarantee the health and safety of all the participants”, as Fabrice Berthon, the show’s Director, highlighted. “Though these conditions are not final at this point A PACKED PROGRAMME in time, we will, as soon as possible, be informing all exhibitors and all our visitors.” Beef cattle - the Aubrac breed will hold its national championships at the SOMMET in 2020 with over 400 of the Today, as almost 90% of trade exhibitors have confirmed their presence breed’s best animals in judging, plus an auction sale on Friday 9 October of some of the Aubrac’s best breeding stock. 15 beef at the show, the organisers, despite the difficult context, are already cattle breeds, of which 5 are foreign breeds, will be in judging or confident that this 2020 edition will be good. -

PROGRAMS THAT EXTEND THE USEFUL LIVES OF HORSES: Supply and demand — they are the ingredients that form the foundation for near- ly all successful business models. Markets are sound and profitable when there is a healthy balance between the two. The theory holds true for the horse market as well. Often, however, owners may not be aware of the demands that exist for horses that may be “unwanted” by some, but desired by others. The purpose of this chapter is to show some of the many programs already in place by horse breed organizations and other groups, in which horses are needed by participants. From trail riding enthusiasts to horse show exhibitors, people are searching every day for horses that fit their lifestyles and interests. By understanding the activities encouraged by breed organizations, owners of some unwanted horses might find a good fit, and a good market, among people seeking horses for organized shows and rec- reational events. Following is a listing of some of the most popular programs and activities underway today and some true-life stories of unwanted horses that developed into champions. Competitive Horse Shows: Nearly all horse breed associations offer opportunities for friendly competition. Although a horse may be retired or reaching advanced years of maturity, horse shows offer outlets to help keep the horse active and involved. The registries offer several different disciplines with classes ranging from leadline to saddle seat pleasure to barrel racing. A horse owner can often find a way to keep horses involved for a long time in the variety of disciplines offered in the showing world. -

Deb and her “Destiny” The internet is a wonderful thing. It allowed me to find the love of my life. I was surfing the BLM site July of 2009 and there she was, an Appaloosa Mustang mare looking back at me from a picture taken of her at the Mantle Ranch in Wyoming. Her eyes said “Here I am, I am the one for you, take me home!” and that was what I was determined to do. She is from the White Mountain HMA in Sweetwater Wyoming and Steve Mantle had done some halter breaking work with her and that made me even more excited. After reading how to place an internet auction bid on the updated BLM site I sat at my computer and started to shake…..was this going to work? Is this a fantasy or is that Appaloosa really sending me a message that she is for me? Am I nuts! Well after a few minutes of thinking…I hit the key and sent in my bid. Now the pressure was on, would I win her or not….so I watch the computer screen intently and suddenly there was my bid, I was in the running to get the Appy mare of my dreams. I already own a Mustang and she is a great partner and friend. She is about as solid a trail horse as there is but a little on the small side. I knew I should be happy with just her but something about the Appy mare looking at me from my computer screen just tugged at my heart strings. -
