THE FACE OF HOPE IS YOU ANNUAL REPORT 2020 2020 ANNUAL REPORT 1 Welcome to Our FY 2020 Annual Report. I am honored to report on the good works of this amazing organization. Like few other times in our 100+ year history, Catholic Charities has been called into service in unprecedented ways. Doubling and tripling some of our offerings overnight and quickly converting others from face-to-face to digital, our team has been out in homes, parishes, and communities across Cook and Lake Counties serving those in need—regardless of their faith or ethnic, racial, or gender identities—seven days a week. Extraordinary needs continue to be met with extraordinary generosity from donors, staff, and volunteers. We have set records in both fundraising and service. I am so proud and fortified by our response. It is indeed a wellspring of hope you make possible. Your gift supports one of the most effective human service organizations in the country, a lifeline for individuals and families and an anchor for communities. What makes us unique? OUR EXPERIENCE As our region grapples with the impact of a once-in-a-generation health crisis, Catholic Charities continues to respond with expertise, decisiveness, and impact—all built over a century of service. Decade after decade, Catholic Charities has been there—serving people across the city and throughout suburban Cook and Lake Counties, at our offices, in parish parking lots and basements, and on the phone. OUR SCALE We are one of the largest human services providers in the country. We help hundreds of thousands of people each year in the Chicago region—regardless of their faith or ethnic, racial, or gender A refugee mother from Rohingya starts a safer life in the United States with the help of Catholic Charities. identities—and we meet them where they are. OUR BREADTH We know how to feed and shelter people; keep families in their homes; care for children, seniors, and veterans; provide counseling for teen mothers and victims of domestic violence; invest in communities; and provide home care for the infirmed. This list goes on—we are here for people, families, and communities in need. OUR VALUES We are a Catholic organization. We believe in an all-loving and all-knowing God who uniquely cherishes and accompanies each person’s life—and that we are called to be Christ’s hands out in the world. We serve with the empathy, confidence, and hope that comes from our faith in God, the love of Jesus, the consolation of Mary, and the inspiration of the saints who have served before us across the ages. In gratitude for the many blessings this organization receives daily, Sally Blount, Ph.D. President and CEO 2 2020 ANNUAL REPORT 3 BEFORE, DURING & AFTER This annual report (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020) FOOD & NUTRITION HOUSING & HOMELESSNESS bridges the time period of the coronavirus PREVENTION pandemic, from when the world first started to understand the scope of our health challenge into unprecedented economic needs stemming from 1.9 Million | Food parcels provided at pantries 2,607 | People provided with housing health precautions aimed at slowing transmission of the virus. 67,948 | Meals served to the homeless 1,136 | People received financial As we were before and will be after, Catholic or food insecure assistance to avoid homelessness Charities has been there. 72,086 | Mothers and young children accessed Nearly 10,000 | People were transported But only because you’ve been here with us. nutritional food at our WIC Food Markets to area homeless shelters You have our immense gratitude.
