Dear Friends: How does one reduce the work done by students, parents, faculty and staff over the course of a year to a single page without losing some of the significant, granular details? It simply can- not be done. As I begin my fourth year at Notre Dame College Prep, I continue to be in awe of the number of “moving pieces” being managed by the 800 students, the 120 teachers, coaches and administrators, 17 board members, well over fifteen hundred parents and guardians, more than twelve thousand alumni, and many, many more friends of Notre Dame College Prep. While things do not always run perfectly – or at least as smoothly as we would like – with everyone’s help and commitment to our school, things run remarkably well. As I have said on many occasions, all of us have a role to play in the success of the school – every, single one of us. And each one of us has to perform our role in order for the school to be successful. Nobody’s role, no matter how large or how small, is more important than anyone else’s. When it comes together each year, it is a thing of beauty to behold. We set another record this year! For the sixtieth year in a row, beginning with the Class of 1958, we graduated a senior class of remarkably talented, poised, and prepared young men. These Dons completed their work here and left to pursue their dreams. This same year, for more than sixty years in a row, we admitted an incoming class of freshmen, who looked remarkably like their predecessors. As newly minted Dons, they began learning what it means to be gentlemen of faith, scholarship and service. They began their first-hand experience of the benefits of a Holy Cross education. And now, as rising sophomores, they will join with their upperclassmen to welcome a new incoming class of freshmen. Nothing else we do at Notre Dame College Prep is as important as what you have read in the previous paragraph. And nothing else is as rewarding. Our school is populated with faculty and staff who believe in our mission and the unique- ness of our Holy Cross educational philosophy and experience. The young men who come to Notre Dame, as well as their parents and guardians, take that first step because they, too, believe in what we are doing. Over the course of four years, that belief develops and deepens in all of us. And the cycle continues. Enjoy this year’s edition of The Legacy. Feel free to compare it to your experience at Notre Dame. Be sure to notice and smile at the differences and the similarities. We can always argue about which athletic team was the best, which Juggler Crew was the most talented, and which teachers were the toughest, and even which class was the smartest. But there is no argument that being a Don is as relevant today as ever. In Notre Dame, Ralph J. Elwart President Notre Dame College Prep is sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross. I can not express the exhilaration I feel to have the opportunity to give back to the school which has given me so much for the past 15 years,” said Cademartori. “One of my main priorities as head coach will be to bring the passion and dedication back to Notre Dame College prep Baseball. While winning is important, the main purpose of our mission here is to mold young men into gentlemen and scholars,” added Cademartori. Kevin Clancy ‘98 was a prominent member of the 1997 ND Elite Eight NDCP Wall of Fame Basketball Team that played in the State Finals. He earned team MVP Honors and was selected to the ESCC All Conference team in 1998. Clancy took over as Head Basketball Coach after Tom Les ‘71 retired at the end of the 2017 season after ten years. Clancy, who has been as assistant coach under Les during that time and for Dennis Zelasko before him, is excited to continue his coaching career as Head Coach. “I have great pride in being a Notre Dame alum and the Front Row (l-r): Miguel Sanchez, Steve Jankowski, Michael Rosengrant, Mi- experiences I had as a student-athlete here.
