ST. BENEDICT PARISH AND PREPARATORY SCHOOL TheMARCH 12, 2017Steward I SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Christ Jesus . destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. -- 2 Timothy 1:10b Lord, It Is Good That We Are Here Geoff Pautsch, Director of Finance This Sunday, our Gospel reading recounts the Transfiguration of Jesus. St. Thomas Aquinas considered this miracle to be the greatest of miracles because it happened to Jesus himself. It is very appropriate that the Church provides us this reading during the season of Lent. The Transfiguration of Jesus gave the disciples a foretaste of what the glory of heaven will be. The Transfiguration of Jesus, like the Baptism of the Lord, are pivotal events in our Catholic faith where human nature meets the divine, a bridge between heaven and earth. During our time in Lent, we put additional focus on transforming our lives. In our case, however, it is our inward self that needs transforming rather than our outward self. God asks us to seek conversion of our mind and heart. God is calling us to share what he has given us However, we must be open to conversion for it with others. to occur. God has blessed our parish with many gifts. In Stewardship is closely associated with this just three weeks, our parish will begin celebrating conversion. People who give of themselves to the 100th birthday of our church building, a long- build the kingdom of God are disciples of the anticipated event in the life of our parish. There Lord. To be a disciple, we must follow Jesus’ has been an enormous amount of time and energy example and teachings.
