[1CEU; 1 PDU] Kirk Anthony James, PhD, New York University Clinical Assistant Professor at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. His work “The Invisible Epidemic in Social Work Academia,” examined the complex phenomena of mass incarceration through a historical and contemporary lens. He focuses on deconstructing issues of mass incarceration –– specifically as it pertains to trauma, cognitive development, culpability, and the examination of systems that foster and perpetuate racial injustice. 1 10:05 - 11:05 am: Towards an American Independent Tradition in Psychoanalysis – Keynote [1 PDU] Keynote Speaker Nancy Chodorow, PhD, Harvard University Lecturer of Psychiatry, a sociologist and psychoanalyst who taught for years at the University of California, and is now at Harvard. Her 1978 landmark book, The Reproduction of Mothering: Psychoanalysis and the Sociology of Gender was chosen by Contemporary Sociology as one of the ten most influential books of the last quarter century. Some of her other books that address psychoanalysis and feminism include Individualizing Gender and Sexuality: Theory and Practice, Feminism and Psychoanalytic Theory, The Power of Feelings: Personal Meaning in Psychoanalysis, Gender and Culture, and Femininities, Masculinities, Sexualities: Freud and Beyond. 11:10 am - 12:10 pm: Rebirth: It’s been around a Long Time [1 PDU] Michael Eigen, PhD, New York University Associate Clinical Professor of Psychology (part time) in the Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He has authored over 25 books including Toxic Nourishment, The Psychotic Core, and Flames from the Unconscious. He was on the Board of Directors at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis for eight years, first as Program Chair, then editor of The Psychoanalytic Review. 12:10 - 1:10 pm: Lunch; served in the Shorin Room #802 1:15 - 3:15 pm: Dialogue on the Historical Contributions of David Greenberg [1 PDU] David Greenberg, PhD, Professor of History and Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers University. His 2016 Republic of Spin: An Inside History of the American Presidency examines the rise of the White House spin machine, from the Progressive Era to the present day, and the debates that Americans have waged over its implications for democracy. Samuel Popkin, PhD, University of California – San Diego, will be the discussant. 3:20 - 4:20 pm: Trump's Rallies and the Psychohistorical Impact of the Closet Narcissist [1 PDU] Susan Kavaler Adler, PhD, ABPP, NCPsyA, DLitt, Founder and Director of the Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psycho- analysis. She is in private practice as a psychologist and psychoanalyst in New York City.
