Power: 250 HP diesel Hull: Wood Adventuress is a National Historic Landmark and a Puget Sound treasure. The 1913 schooner sails to increase awareness of the majesty and vulnerability of Puget Sound. The non-profit environmental education organization, Sound Experience, was founded in 1989 and provides hands-on education aboard Adventuress to thousands of young people annually and partners with youth-serving organizations to reach Puget Sound area at- risk teenagers. Crewed by search and rescue volunteers, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) vessels respond to distress situations around the Fraser River and the Strait of Georgia. Volunteers go through extensive training before they can act as search and rescue (SAR) crew. In addition, the volunteer organization contributes hundreds of hours annually to support boating safety in and around our community. Year Built: 1963 In Scotch Pond you can see the Crystal S., a beautifully maintained example of a west coast designed wooden fishing vessel. A combination gillnetter/troller, she was constructed by M. Sakamoto Boat Works in Steveston from oak, red cedar, yellow cedar and gumwood. Crystal S. was named for his daughter and worked as the family fishing boat. Mamoru supervised its maintenance himself until he passed away in 2003. Gaia Homeport: Vancouver, BC (lives at Garden Bay, Pender Harbour) Rig: Gaff-rigged Ketch with Mermuda mizzen, topmast and yardarm on the mainmast Length Overall: 60 ft. Draft: 8 ft. Beam: 18 ft. Year Built: 1921 Gaia was originally built as a true sailing trawler without an engine for North Sea fishing. She was around during World War II. She has been used as a sailing trawler, a yacht and also as an operational sail vessel. She took part in the Tall Ships Parade in New York and her silhouette against the Statue of Liberty took centre-stage of the July 4, 1986 issue of the New York Times. Gaia was sold in Venezuela in 2003, and then made her way to Vancouver. In 2005, she was purchased by the Ingersoll family and continues as a yacht. Tonnage: 25 long tonnes Crew: 2 Construction: • Douglas Fir planking and decks • Double sawn Yellow Cedar frames • Douglas Fir keel and backbone • Yellow Cedar deck frames and masts • Teak and Ike topside trim • Yew and Gumwood trunnels in frames and planking Grail Dancer is a traditional schooner based on the hull lines of the Emma C Berry, a Noank Well Smack from 1866. She was built on Thetis Island, BC by owners, Wayne and Maureen Loiselle. HMCS Oriole Homeport: Esquimalt, British Columbia Rig: Marconi rigged ketch Length Overall: 102 ft. Length on Deck: 91ft. Power: 261 HP Detroit Diesel Crew: 21 The HMCS Oriole is the oldest commissioned ship in the Canadian Navy and is the fourth vessel in a line dating back to 1880. The ship was initially called Oriole IV until it was commissioned HMCS Oriole in June 1952. Two years after being commissioned by the Royal Canadian Navy, the HCMS Oriole was moved to the West Coast of Canada to become a training vessel. It was later purchased by the Canadian Navy in 1957. Year Built: 1981 The Mycia is a hand-made, wooden, gaff-rigged, American sailing-fishing schooner. Built entirely by hand in the Pacific Northwest, the Mycia was designed and lofted by Jim Franken and Robert Prothero at the Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building. She was built for the commercial halibut and black cod fisheries in the Gulf of Alaska. The Maher Family launched the Mycia in 1997 and is the accomplishment of a lifelong dream realized through the hard work and vision of a family effort. P6-19 Length Overall: 63 ft. Draft: 38 in. Disp: 22 tons Power: Hall-Scott V-12 gas engines X 2 Fuel consumption: 110 GPH Year Built: 1943 The P-619 is designated a Navy Aircraft Rescue Vessel (AVR) and was a built by the US Navy in 1943 and consigned to the US Army Air Force where it served in the Pacific. This vessel served as a high speed vessel to pick up downed air crew. Once the war was over, she went back to the US Navy to serve as a sea scout vessel until the early 1950s. The P-619 was equipped with .50 calibre machine guns and mark 6 depth charges for anti- submarine work. Grossing at 4 tons, this open Titan 249 RHI Delta 5 cruises at 35 knots. Crewed by search and rescue volunteers, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) vessels respond to distress situations around the Fraser River and the Strait of Georgia. RCMSAR Jimmy Ng was named in honour of the late Richmond RCMP Constable Jimmy Ng, who passed away while on duty, in the hands of a local street racer. Constable Ng was an active volunteer with the RCMSAR. This vessel was purchased with support from the local community and has an RCMP crest on the front helm in his memory, which is unique for a non- RCMP piece of equipment. Richmond RCMP Vessel Homeport: Richmond, BC Rig: Gillnetter Hull: Inflatable boat Length Overall: 24 ft. Year built: 1994 The Richmond RCMP Vessel is a rigid hull inflatable boat called a Zodiac Hurricane. Twin Mercury 150 motors power the vessel. The Fraser Guardian allows the Richmond RCMP to have a uniformed police presence on the waterways which surround Richmond as well as responding to marine-related calls of service, including vessel safety checks, marine community events and the enforcement of various federal and provincial acts and regulations. Year Built: mid 1980’s San Marino was built in Steveston in the mid 1980s by Perma Glass Boat Builders as a bare basic gillnetter with only a Volvo diesel and aluminum gillnet drum. Peter Beritic, the present owner, acquired the boat in 1988 and refitted it for his own all seasonal use. The San Marino fished the British Columbia Coast for salmon from the Fraser River to River’s and Smith Inlets and for shrimp in the Straits of Georgia, Gulf Island and on West Coast of Vancouver Island. Silver Ann Homeport: Richmond, British Columbia Rig: Gillnetter Length Overall: 35 ft. Beam: 10 ft. Draft: 3 ft. Crew: 2 Launched in 1968-69, the Silver Ann was the last boat to be constructed by the Britannia Shipyards, National Historic Site. She was built for George Osaka as a river gillnetter, and eventually passed through several hands, one of whom reconfigured her as a packer. In November 2001, she was acquired by the City of Richmond and sits in the Richmond- Boatworks undergoing a complete restoration. Clint Osaka, one of the volunteers who has worked on restoring her, is the great nephew of George Osaka, her original owner. SHIPS TO SHORE STEVESTON 2013 8.
