1st Steps Line dance club recently hosted a social at the Tithe Farm Social Club in Harrow with special guest, Glenn Rogers. Stephanie Lindley told us: “80 people came to see Glenn, some had never been to a live gig before but gave Glenn a try and were delighted with the evening. What a great entertainer he is. We danced to BCO, Playing With Fire, Mexicali and he offered us Wild which is bang up to date, we also danced to Cowboy Charleston, County Line and Stroll Along - what a versatile entertainer he is. We laughed, danced and socialised all evening. We all had a fabulous time, thank you Glenn.”

St Patrick’s Day was celebrated in Blarney With ‘The Girls’ style by Maureen and Michelle at their monthly Friday social at The Peace Memorial Hall, Penkridge, Staffordshire. Dancers arrived dressed in the colour theme of green, plus numerous shamrocks and even a few leprechauns. The atmosphere, as usual, was full of Line dancing enthusiasm as dancers filled the floor to enjoy a broad range of dances covering the latest chart hits to their favourite golden oldies. Maureen and Michelle also included a mix of Irish dances to add to the flavour of St Patrick’s Day, plus the unusual but very enjoyable, experience of dancing Smokey Places and Ribbon of Highway to Irish music. A fun evening that epitomised the friendly, laughter-filled atmosphere of Line dancing.

Tune In I Just wanted to let you know I watched Linedancer TV for the fi rst time recently. I have to say that, in my opinion, it has to be yet another fi rst class achievement by you all. I particularly enjoyed watching the girls and boys dancing ‘Chill Factor’, as I have never seen it danced before or been taught it, though I think I'm a little past it now. I am certainly going to be sure and watch the station every day from now on and I will also be recommending that my friends join the magazine so that they can see just what they are missing out on. Also, I would like to say many thanks for all the free music downloads that you have made available to us over the past few months, well done you. What a wonderful site we have access to now! mirande.indd 2 31/03/2010 15:48 Linedancer Magazine has recently heard from many people who have had unfortunate experiences on the dance fl oor, courtesy of other dancers. Multi-talented Gary Lafferty, DJ, choreographer, instructor and dancer, recently revisited the subject by creating an up to date dance fl oor etiquette guide. So what is dance fl oor etiquette and why is it important. Dawn Middleton fi nds out more.

We like to think of it as the art of getting stepped on, getting heeled or elbowed? The dance dancing, whether good or bad, in your own space. The art of not floor can be a dangerous place. With people often doing out being all over the dance floor, unaware of or totally oblivious to of control air steps with reckless abandonment and charleston other people dancing around you. The art of having consideration kicks that resemble Kung Fu moves, it’s a wonder there isn’t an for other dancers and of not intruding into their space. Just as ambulance standing by outside some dance clubs. Add to this the you wouldn’t want them to intrude into yours. bruised feelings that result from rudeness and the frustration one feels when continually jostled on a busy dance floor and Gary Lafferty recently placed a comment on Facebook after you have the potential for a riot. All these things can be easily attending a social night and he found the lack of dance floor avoided if everyone simply abides by dance etiquette was absolutely shocking. There were people floor etiquette. thinking that they could join a line where there clearly was not enough space for them, or literally elbowing and pushing people in an attempt to join the middle of a row when the dance had already started. The response to Gary’s post was incredible. “I didn’t realise that so many people felt exactly the same and so came the idea of my new document but it is by no means intended to be ‘the definitive guide’.” Here is Etiquette (pronounced [,eti’ket]) a small selection of of the document. is a code of behavior that delineates expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, or group

Please DO: • Dance in lines! We are not here to Squiggle Dance • Listen to the DJ to know what dance is being played, and for any floor splits being called – it will help you ensure that you are doing the same dance as the person next to you • Be aware of your surroundings - remember to take smaller steps when a new dance is being taught, or a popular dance is being played (the dance floor may be fuller than normal) and NEVER kick too high or jump with both feet off the floor, it’s not a gymnastics class! Please DON’T: • Walk across the dance floor when music is playing to reach the other side of the hall as this is dangerous not only to yourself but to other dancers who may not see you - you should ALWAYS walk around, not cut across • Try to join an existing line where there is not enough space for you to do so, you wouldn’t like someone to push in beside you, so please don’t do it to anyone else • Bend down in the middle of the floor to tie the laces on your sparkly dance shoes, this is very dangerous as you immediately become a hazard to the other dancers moving around you

Don’t Ask Me ‘Bout A Woman (128bpm) is a fi ne country dance track and Easton sounds a lot like Craig Morgan with good lyrics, good music and a really good beat. I Can’t Love You Back (68bpm) has a strong nightclub two step beat and I will be very surprised if some choreographers don’t pick up on this one. When he had by-pass surgery two years ago, Mac thought his dancing days were over. “With the encouragement of the medical staff and the BHF volunteers, dancing became part of my re-habilitation and now I’m back dancing twice a week and helping to teach at Easybeat.
