Each day paintbrushes are picked up and oil paints unfold on canvases in Plein air, to tell the tale of the landscapes and magical light we are blessed with. Leigh is a Board member and the Exhibit chair for S-C-A-P-E. (Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment). Several large Art Exhibits are scheduled each year to benefit environmental concerns. She is also a member of Santa Barbara Art Association and Carpinteria Valley Art Association. Spa Essential Oils DIY Workshop — Cathi Russel I am a wife, mother and businesswoman living in the central coast of California. After having experienced the oils for a couple of years my family and I have profound positive results to our health. I own the shop SYV Essential Oils in Solvang and strive to educate about the many therapeutic uses of essential oils. We are presenting a really fun class where you can enjoy the process of making spa items from scratch without a care in the world, except what essential oils you want to incorporate in your items Class size: 4-10 guests. Guests must be 8 and older. $70 per person per class. Weather permitting. 30 Arists at The Alisal Classes and Workshops

Photography — Daniel Quinojon Born and raised in Los Angeles, I grew up with a dad who photographed on weekends. In high school I took some photography classes and was hooked on the idea of visual storytelling and making great images. I enlisted in the US Navy in 1992 and became a military photographer and served for 6 years overseas and aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln out of Everett, Washington. Honorably discharged, I enrolled into college courses with my GI Bill. Some of my base course work shaped a lot of how I photograph my subjects to this day. Namely a night course I completed through a scholarship program with the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Additionally, while pursuing my college coursework, I worked most of my free hours as a freelance photojournalist for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News, and Whittier Daily News. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Communications/Photography from Cal State Fullerton in 2002. In 2004, I accepted my current position as a technical photographer and video editor with the US Air Force at Vandenberg AFB and have been a Central Coast dweller ever since. My current body of work focusing on the equine subject began in late 2009 as I was first introduced to horses at that time. As I undertook learning how to ride dressage, I became fascinated with the movement of horses, their physique and of course, the variety of their individual personalities. Through the training and care of several horses, I have learned a great deal of this species and their impact on me has been life changing. But it is also important to note that for centuries the horse has been man’s partner in life, and they deserve our respect. I sincerely believe that horses still serve a purpose in this world and can help aid in making life better. Simply put, if more people loved and cared for a horse, this world would be a better place. Class size: 3-10 guests. Open to all ages. $35 per person per class. Weather permitting.

31 32 Arists at The Alisal Classes and Workshops

Jewerly — Alix Camp Ventura based craftswoman, Alix Camp, has been honing her jewelry making skills for well over 10 years. She has always enjoyed a slow and contemplative lifestyle and making things with her hands has become an integral part of her meditative practice. In the past few years she has fallen in love with teaching the process of turning raw materials into beautiful art. She looks forward to giving you an excuse to say, “Thanks, I made it myself!”. Class size: 2-10 guests. Guests must be 14 and older. $60 per person per class. Weather permitting. BBQ Spice Blend Workshop — Joy Culley In 2018, Joy Culley, together with business partner Taylor Facha, combined a love of food and cooking with an entrepreneurial endeavor which culminated in the opening of the Santa Ynez Valley’s only spice and tea shop, Solvang Spice Merchant. Joy doesn’t consider herself an expert, but she jokes about her unofficial role as Spice Monger. Her favorite part of being in the shop is taking guests on a culinary journey around the world and introducing them to unique spices and blends. And of course, her other favorite part is “testing” each of the hand-blended spices! Class size: 2-10 guests. No age limits. $70 per person per class. Weather permitting.
