The National Agricultural Law Center The nation’s leading source for agricultural and food law research & information NationalAgLawCenter.org | [email protected] Factsheet Series: 2020 Ten Legal Issues for Farm Stay Operators Peggy Kirk Hall This material is based upon Associate Professor work supported by the Ohio State University Extension National Agricultural Library, Agricultural Abigail Wood Research Service, U.S. Research Assistant, OSU Agricultural & Resource Law Program Department of Agriculture Imagine waking up on a farm—to countryside views, open space, and farm activities—and you’ve envisioned a “farm stay.” A farm stay offers people an escape to the country and provides urban individuals an opportunity to experience a rural lifestyle and gain a glimpse inside life on a farm. The farm stay is part of a growing trend in “agritourism” that involves family farmers using their land, food supply, and livestock to attract guests to the farm.1 For farm and ranch owners, offering a farm stay accommodation can generate a new stream of revenue. Many farmers and ranchers appear to be recognizing and capitalizing on this financial opportunity. While lagging behind many European countries, the U.S. now has a national non-profit trade association that connects potential guests to accredited farm stay operators through on online booking platform, the U.S. Farm Stay Association.2 The association currently has 121 accredited farm stay operators across the country and reports that there are about 1,500 additional working farms and ranches in the U.S. that offer lodging, a doubling since the association began in 2010.3 In 2018, there were approximately 57,000 listings on the popular Airbnb website that the company identified as “rural,” bringing in about $316 million to the “rural” hosts,4 and Airbnb added a more specific “farm stay” category to its listings a year ago. -

TOURIST INFORMATION BUREAU SERVICES YEAR 2 ANNUAL PLAN TOURIST INFORMATION BUREAU SERVICES Visit Jacksonville will serve as the premier expert on tourist attractions, activities and events, accommodations, and restaurants available to tourists who visit Jacksonville. In accordance with Section 666.108(b)(1), Ordinance Code, Visit Jacksonville will operate and staff the City’s Tourist Bureau. The Tourist Information Bureau Services to be performed shall consist of the three functions required under the Tourist Development Plan: 1) visitor centers 2) comprehensive listings 3) assembly of available information EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2017-2018 has been a year of discovery for our tourist information bureau efforts. Opening the new fully staffed Beaches Visitor Center provided a wonderful opportunity to be much more engaged in the beaches area. We hired new staff that resides in the area and have developed a strong bond with the Beaches Museum & History Park. We participated in the Opening of the Beaches Parade to make locals and visitors more aware that we are open. Though our initial traffic was slow, we are seeing improved visitation numbers and know that once there is more awareness of our center we will see traffic numbers increase. Our efforts for comprehensive listings has been a wonderful undertaking, introducing us to new businesses throughout the city. It is challenging to keep up with all the new business, but even more so to keep track of those that have closed or moved locations. Our staff is diligent in our efforts to keep our database as up to date as possible and work daily to make updates and changes. -

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Transportation Commission STATE HIGHWAY ACCESS CATEGORY ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE 2 CCR 601-1A [Editor’s Notes follow the text of the rules at the end of this CCR Document.] _______________________________________________________________________________ Section One: Introduction 1.1 Authority Section 43-2-147, C.R.S., authorizes the Colorado Department of Transportation ("Department") to regulate vehicular access to or from the State Highway System and establish a functional classification system. The State Highway Access Code, 2 CCR 601-1, ("Access Code") implements the state statute and sets standards for the regulation of access on State Highways. The Access Code is adopted by the Transportation Commission of Colorado ("Commission"). 1.2 Purpose Section Three of the Access Code provides an access control classification system. There are eight separate categories. The State Highway Access Category Assignment Schedule ("the Schedule") assigns to each state highway segment a category pursuant to the requirements of Access Code subsection 2.2 and Section Three. This assignment adoption is by the Commission. The Commission is promulgating rules in response to requests received from local governments and CDOT related to the Schedule. 1.3 Category FR - Frontage Roads Section Two of the Schedule contains the category assignments for all sections of highways specifically assigned by the Commission. By this Schedule, all state highway frontage roads (includes service roads) are assigned category FR, except for those segments specifically listed in Section Two as requested by the local authority in accordance with Access Code subsection 3.13(1). 1.4 How To Read Section Two (A) The following explanations are given to clarify the column headings in Section Two. -

Combined, the purchased facilities and the accompanying land constitute the Boulder Canyon Hydroelectric Project (Barker system). Boulder purchased the Boulder Canyon Hydroelectric Project using a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Windy Gap Project units in 1991. All remaining funds from the Windy Gap sale will be used to repair and upgrade the Barker system. The main purpose for the purchase of the these facilities was to enhance Boulder’s municipal water supply and to allow the city to make necessary repairs to the Barker system.
