No electronic devices are available. Patients do not have to be registered as blind rder or partially sighted in o to access this clinic. Referrals can be made via a community optometrist, a GP or an ophthalmologist (specialist eye doctor). Waiting time is approximately 4 -‐ 6 weeks, but this may change during periods of heavy demand. A full assessment is carried out to determine whether a magnifying device is beneficial. There is a wide range of optical magnifying devices which can be demonstrated e.g. hand-‐held magnifiers, stand magnifiers, illuminated magnifiers, distance and near telescopic aids. The most appropriate magnifier is issued on a permanent loan basis i.e. it remains the property of the hospital and should be returned if not in use. A ate separ referral is required if a patient needs to be seen by an ophthalmologist or another service. Replacement bulbs for aids can be posted out, as required, by contacting the clinics directly.
