ANNUAL 2018 / 2019 REPORT Page 1 of 55 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Season 2018/2019 saw St Pats field 4 Master Blaster teams, 13 junior teams and 10 senior teams. Collectively this represents nearly 450 players in the Club. There were further changes to both junior and seniors’ formats. One would say with mixed results. The Club will continue to work with both Associations to ensure that the game remains appealing to all ages and skill level. Whilst each junior team had a coach and manager this season and each senior team had a manager, the Club desperately needs more people to join the committee to assist with either the Master Blaster, Juniors or Seniors programs. We also want to explore the feasibility of improving the net facility with steps from the carpark and general improvement to seating and access. However, we need people to assist in getting quotes, grants etc. The Club was again supported by our friends at the Tradies and we thank them for their continued support. Adam Young Hope everyone enjoys their winter activities and look forward to seeing you back with St Pats in the 2019/2020 season. Page 2 of 55 TREASURER REPORT 2018 / 2019 St. Patrick’s Cricket Club remains in a strong financial position after the 2018-19 season with a season profit of just under $9,000.00, this is a very good result with increases in registration & shirt sale on the Income side, on expenditure side, Association fees increased but we didn’t buy any shirts (saving of $9,900.00 on previous year) Unfortunately we have no “Premiership Team expenses” this year, so the only outstanding amounts that will come into next years expenses are AGM & Annual report expenses. Both income & expenditure are down this season due to decreases in seniors, girls & junior teams. Balance at 16th April 2018: $40,359.88 Income & Expenditure are detailed below – included are figures for 2017-18 for comparison: INCOME ITEM 2018-19 2017-18 Registration and Player Fees 38,147.86 32,961.43 Sponsorship 5,300.00 5,300.00 Donation nil nil Sales of Shirts and Caps 3,535.00 2,377.50 Interest nil nil Social income nil nil Income Sydney 6’s & Green & Gold & Misc nil nil Player contribution to Jackets/caps nil Bingo Night nil nil School Clinics nil nil 20/20 Gala day nil nil Sundries/misc nil TOTAL $46,982.86 $40,638.93 EXPENDITURE ITEM 2018-19 2017-18 Umpire Fees (juniors) $1,235.00-$905.72 rebate 329.28 483.77 Trophies 3,206.18 2,825.70 Presentation Day expenses 2017/18 plus 2018/19 1,534.13 3,189.74 Annual report expenses (previous year) 493.90 nil Association Fees/Match Fees, Junior & senior 15,317.50 10,791.25 Equipment & Balls (Balls $11,076.60 Equ $746.60) 11,825.20 9081.20 Shirts, Caps and Badges nil 9,927.50 Jackets & Premiership Caps (previous year) 1,760.00 1,892.00 Electricity (including Waratah Oval lights) nil nil Long Service players bags (previous years) nil nil Advertising plus fliers 431.00 nil Postage/Stationary & PO box 130.00 127.00 Lockup & G1 Keys 58.00 nil Dept. of fair trading 45.00 71.00 Misc,(Bowling machine repairs/Domain/Chalk ) 187.57 nil Bank Fees 135.00 120.00 Refunds 80.00 480.00 60 year celebrations (17/18 season) 2,783.65 nil TOTAL $38,316.41 $38,989.16 Balance at 16th April 2019: $49,083.60 Made up of Main Business Account $33,626.00 Plus Online savings account $15,457.60 (incl $68.27 Interest Less $10.00 Fees) Warren Daley, Treasurer. Jim Lynch was instrumental in making St Pats what it is today. Jim was passionate about junior cricket in the Shire and was not only life member of St Pats, he was life member of SSJCA and Patron and Life member of the Umpires Association. Jim had attended the last 47 junior presentation days. From St Patrick's 50th year book Jim Lynch moved from committeeman to become the 6th chairman of St. Patrick's boys' cricket for the 1976/77 season. We are all aware that in any group, there are mixtures of the individual personalities including the straight-man. For those of us involved in cricket in the Sutherland Shire, let there be no doubt, Jim is the straight-man. What you see is what you get, it's straight down the line. No ifs or buts, just a fair dinkum approach to the matters at hand. For some 37 years now, Jim has been extremely hard working, uncompromising, a stickler for the rules and regulations at hand, whether it be our St. Pats Club; the Association (boys or men), umpires, coaching or managing teams. During his 2 terms as cricket Chairman, 1976/77 to 1977/78 and then again in 1982/83, 41 teams with 467 players played in our club teams. So good was Jim as a club administrator, that the boy's Association Secretary head hunted Jim to become Assistant Secretary. In addition to his club duties, you can measure his capacity to work hard for boy cricketers in the shire as he combined Association commitments as well. After 2 years in that Association role, Jim accepted the role of Competition Secretary. His involvement covered 2 periods, 1977/78 to 1981/82 (5 years) and 3 more years from 1985/86 to 1987/88. The workload in this role was almost equal to the Secretary’s role, lots of time involved, great attention to detail, accurate recording and those involved had to toe the line. Following his decision to ease back, i.e. no official role in club or Association, Jim moved into the umpires ranks. A thankless role at the best of times but befitting a person like Jim. As we know, he's tough when the going gets tough. Life Memberships to the Boys Association in 1981 and to St. Patrick's Cricket Club are recognition of the wonderful contribution made by one Jim Lynch. Jim was awarded the Australia 2000 Sports Medal for services to Cricket in 2000. Could the game of cricket ever repay people of Jim's calibre...NEVER! Page 5 of 55 Cricketer of the Year - AUSTIN HEWETT r of the / 2017 The Senior Cricketer of the Year award is presented to an Under 16 player who has played with St Patricks Cricket Club for at least 3 seasons and is based on a combination of performance, contribution to the team, the Club and who abides by the Spirit of Cricket. Over the years the award has been presented to 16A player however an exception was made with this years recipient. Austin Hewitt accomplishment with the bat this season was simply amazing: - Batting aggregate of 689 which is the highest by a 16B player by more than 150 runs and was only 79 runs short of the all time record held by Kevin Tuite in 1981/82 season Page 6 of 55 Batting average of 114.8 which is also a record for a U16 player in any grade for the Club Highest score of 165 not out highest for a U16B player Scored 4 centuries in one season – equal highest with Kevin Tuite and is only the 3rd time in the history of the club that one player has scored 3 or more centuries in a season. Not bad for a boy who only scored 101 runs at an average of 12 in the previous season. It was not only is performance with the bat that Austin made a contribution. As captain of the 16B team he led the team with enthusiasm both on the field and at training. His captaincy was astute and the way he made changes to bowling attack, field placements also contributed to the success on the field with the 16B finishing minor premiers. Despite his own personal success Austin never lost sight of the importance of playing cricket in the right spirit. He led by example often shaking the opposition batsman hand upon dismissal especially when they had performed well. He was always polite and courteous to the game officials, opposition captain and coaching staff. Austin has one more season of junior cricket and we wish him all the best next season and beyond. Page 7 of 55 Junior Cricketer of the Year - NICHOLAS PALERMO There is no doubting Nicholas (Nick) Palermo’s passion for the game of cricket or the high standards he sets for himself each season. Nick commenced playing for St Pats in season 2012/13 in the under 8’s. He quickly developed a liking for batting with shots square of the wicket and driving through the covers. He also loved challenging the fielders, taking quick singles with his then batting partner Jeremy Benjamin. At this time, he also developed an early understanding of the value of being able to contribute to the team holistically with bowling economically and being sharp in the field.
