Not the right bookBy JemamiThis was billed as the kindle version of The Scarlet Pimpernel but don't be fooled - it is not the original book. It's either a paraphrase or a kid version but the chapter titles are all different and the wording is definitely not the same as original.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. League of the Scarlet PimpernelBy Kate's TitlesWe seek him here, we seek him there, but Pimpernel novels are hard to find (I know, it doesn't rhyme). I should know, I've been hunting them for years. This is not as good as the original but it's always a pleasure to renew acquaintance with Percy and his friends battling against the guillotine. If you love the original work "The Scarlet PImpernel" you'll enjoy this.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel: A Collection of Short StoriesBy dyroyThis collection of short stories follows the multiple exploits of that suave, mischievous hero Sir Percy Blakeney, the Scarlet Pimpernel, as he rescues persecuted aristocrats during the French revolution. Because these are short stories and not one long novel, plot develops quickly and in a rather straight forward manner. Sir Percy usually effects his rescues via some disguise on his part. He convincingly portrays a wide variety of characters and in each story the means of rescue vary. It is a fun collection to read. One advantage to the short stories is that, since each is self-contained, one can be read at a time and the book can be set down. In contrast, I found the novel "ScarletPimpernel" was compelling throughout, which made it difficult to put down until completed. Why buy our paperbacks? Standard Font size of 10 for all books High Quality Paper Fulfilled by Amazon Expedited shipping 30 Days Money Back Guarantee BEWARE OF LOW-QUALITY SELLERS Don't buy cheap paperbacks just to save a few dollars. Most of them use low-quality papers binding. Their pages fall off easily. Some of them even use very small font size of 6 or less to increase their profit margin. It makes their books completely unreadable. How is this book unique? Unabridged (100% Original content) Font adjustments biography included Illustrated About The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy Beautifully illustrated with appealing paintings by renowned illustrator, The League Of The Scarlet Pimpernel is set during the Reign of Terror following the start of the French Revolution. The title character, Sir Percy Blakeney, a wealthy English fop who transforms into a formidable swordsman and a quick-thinking escape artist, represents the original "hero with a secret identity". They seek him here, They seek him there, Those Frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in heaven? Is he in hell? That damned, elusive Pimpernel. Part romance, part adventure, and part suspenseful spy thriller, lsquo; The League Of The Scarlet Pimpernelrsquo; is one of the first action-adventure stories, paving the way for swashbucklers like the Lone Ranger, Zorro, and Batman. Set in 1792, this is the story of Sir Percy Blakeney, armed with only his wits and cunning, who defies the French revolutionaries to rescue innocent men, women, and children from the guillotine. The ruthless Chauvelin is determined to uncover the identity of this masked Pimpernel and hunt him down. Just SillyBy Douglas J. BassettIn Revolutionary-era France, a woman is saved from a rabid mob by the man who killed her brother years ago, the man she's sworn to destroy.I have a fairly high tolerance for melodrama and melodramatic sequences and even I found this one just plain silly. Orczy on some level seems to agree, as she starts the book with a long explanation/justification for a character who would do such odd things in the story -- presumably to try and make her more plausible? I guess? I'm not sure it really works, at the very least you can feel the heavy degree of contrivance in it. The love interest, humorously, is just stick-stone stupid -- it's the only way the melodrama/story can play out, but it's impossible to take him seriously. Basically beefcake, to be honest about it, just done a little more sophisticated than one is used to seeing nowadays. My guess is that this was a test run to see if a series was possible -- the Scarlet Pimpernel appears here, but strictly in a supporting role.

More Sir Percy, Please!By Karen AmrheinThis is my ninth Scarlet Pimpernel book, so it's reasonable for you to assume that I enjoy Baroness Orczy's books. I do. I love the character of Sir Percy Blakeney / the Scarlet Pimpernel, but that's also the problem. In this, and some of the other sequels, there's just not enough of him!About a third of "Lord Tony's Wife" is quite wonderful. The story is exciting, Sir Percy and the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel are "on screen" doing their thing. Sadly, there's also a long slog through the nasty details of The Terror and the entirely unappealing characters of Representative Carrier and Citizen Martin-Roget / Pierre Adet. The unsavoriness of the French Revolution is spelled out in far too much length, especially for anyone who has read the original "Scarlet Pimpernel" (and why would you be reading this sequel else?) or any of the other sequels."Lord Tony's Wife" has three sections -- Prologue: Nantes, 1789; Book I: Bath, 1793; and Book II: Nantes, December, 1793.

  • The Scarlet Pimpernel Is a Musical with Music by Frank Wildhorn and Lyrics and Book by Nan Knighton, Based on the Novel of the Same Name by Baroness Orczy
The Scarlet Pimpernel is a musical with music by Frank Wildhorn and lyrics and book by Nan Knighton, based on the novel of the same name by Baroness Orczy. The show is set in England and France during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution. The story is a precursor to the spy fiction and the superhero genres, where a hero hides under a mild-mannered alias. The Scarlet Pimpernel started as a workshop with Carolee Carmello as Marguerite and directed by Nick Corley, following a concept album. The musical debuted on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre on October 7, 1997 in previews, officially on November 9, 1997. Directed by Peter H. Hunt, it starred Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Christine Andreas (Marguerite St. Just), and Terrance Mann (Citizen Chauvelin). In June shortly before the Tony Awards were announced, the show was slated to close. The show's fans known as "The League" decided it should have another try. With falling ticket sales, the show ushered in new producers and reopened with Sills and two new leads, Rex Smith and Rachel York and a vastly rearranged production in October 1998 (a year after the previous opening). The show closed at the Minskoff Theatre on May 30, 1999. It had a mini-tour of a scaled-down version in the summer of 1999 with three new leads. The revised version…opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on September 7, 1999, closing on January 2, 2000 for a grand total of 772 performances and 39 previews. The cast starred Ron Bohmer, Marc Kudisch and Carolee Carmello.
