LOVE ETERNAL by H
1 LOVE ETERNAL by H. RIDER HAGGARD TO THE REV. PHILIP T. BAINBRIDGE Vicar of St. Thomas' Regent Street, London You, whose privilege it is by instruction and example to strengthen the weak hands and confirm the feeble knees of many, may perhaps care to read of one whose human love led her from darkness into light and on to the gates of the Love Eternal. CHAPTER I HONEST JOHN More than thirty years ago two atoms of the eternal Energy sped forth from the heart of it which we call God, and incarnated themselves in the human shapes that were destined to hold them for a while, as vases hold perfumes, or goblets wine, or as sparks of everlasting radium inhabit the bowels of the rock. Perhaps these two atoms, or essences, or monads indestructible, did but repeat an adventure, or many, many adventures. Perhaps again and again they had proceeded from that Home august and imperishable on certain mornings of the days of Time, to return thither at noon or nightfall, laden with the fruits of gained experience. So at least one of them seemed to tell the other before all was done and that other came to believe. If so, over what fields did they roam throughout the æons, they who having no end, could have no beginning? Not those of this world only, we may be sure. It is so small and there are so many others, millions upon millions of them, and such an infinite variety of knowledge is needed to shape the soul of man, even though it remain as yet imperfect and but a shadow of what it shall be. -
Romeo Y Julieta 1 Romeo Y Julieta
Autor William Shakespeare Género Tragedia Tema(s) Amor prohibido Idioma Inglés [1] Título original The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedie of Romeo and Juliet País Inglaterra Fecha de publicación 1597 (Q1) 1599 (Q2) 1609 (Q3) 1622 (Q4) 1637 (Q5) Formato En cuarto[d] Romeo y Julieta (1597) es una tragedia de William Shakespeare. -

Just SillyBy Douglas J. BassettIn Revolutionary-era France, a woman is saved from a rabid mob by the man who killed her brother years ago, the man she's sworn to destroy.I have a fairly high tolerance for melodrama and melodramatic sequences and even I found this one just plain silly. Orczy on some level seems to agree, as she starts the book with a long explanation/justification for a character who would do such odd things in the story -- presumably to try and make her more plausible? I guess? I'm not sure it really works, at the very least you can feel the heavy degree of contrivance in it. The love interest, humorously, is just stick-stone stupid -- it's the only way the melodrama/story can play out, but it's impossible to take him seriously. Basically beefcake, to be honest about it, just done a little more sophisticated than one is used to seeing nowadays. My guess is that this was a test run to see if a series was possible -- the Scarlet Pimpernel appears here, but strictly in a supporting role. -

ORCZY, Baroness Y, Baroness
ORCZY, Baroness Britse, geboren als Emma ("Emmuska") Magdalena Rosalia Maria Josefa Barbara Orczy Geboren: Tarna-Örs, Hongarije, 23 september 1865. Overleden: Cannes, Frankrijk, 12 november 1947 Opleiding: in Brussel en Parijs; West London School of Art; Heatherley School of Art, Londen Carrière: kunstenares, tentoonstellingen van haar werk in de Royal Academy, Londen Familie: haar vader was de musicus Baron Felix Orczy; getrouwd met Montagu Barstow, 1894, overleden 1943); 1 zoon. Orczy is vooral bekend geworden door haar serie historische romans over The Scarlet Pimpernel.
