  • Touring Philosophy Is Part of the Porsche Tradition
History Touring philosophy is part of the Porsche tradition In Porsche models, “T” has always stood for Touring, and is synonymous with driving pleasure in a particularly pure form. The first Touring variant appears in autumn 1967 when the 911 T makes its début. As a new basic model in the company’s range of sports cars, it is distinguished by a particularly strong price-performance ratio and a standard equipment configuration that focuses on the essentials, just as the Porsche 912 (with four- cylinder boxer engine) does. Like the 718 T today, the 911 T has an engine capacity of two litres, based on which the six-cylinder boxer engine in the 911 T achieves 110 PS – combined with a weight of just 1,080 kg, the 911 T displays an agile temperament and a top speed of 200 km/h. With manual 4-gear transmission supplied as standard, it is also available in a 5-gear variant. One outstanding sporting success earns this model a special place in Porsche history: More than 50 years ago in 1968, factory drivers Vic Elford and David Stone drove a 180 PS 911 T to victory in the Monte Carlo rally – the first big win for a 911 on the international motorsport stage. 911 Carrera Clubsport: Exclusive lightweight model The 1987 911 Carrera Clubsport also followed the Touring philosophy, with a spartan lightweight version that knows all about stripping back to basics, especially in the interior. Rear seats and electric window switches are absent, along with the automatic heating regulation, passenger sun visor, clothes hooks, and covers for the storage compartments in the doors.

  • Mark Webber and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Star at the 2018 Australian
newsroom Company Mar 25, 2018 Mark Webber and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS star at the 2018 Australian Grand Prix Porsche Cars Australia has begun Australian celebrations of 70 years of the Porsche sports car at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this week. The event was the Australian debut of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the fastest and most powerful 911 with approval for use on the road. Local hero and Porsche ambassador Mark Webber, who was involved in the development of this high-performance model, was on-hand to drive the GT2 RS around the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. The first Australian-bound version of this car was also on display at the event. Webber and the GT2 RS was a part of the exclusive Porsche Pole Position track activity on the Wednesday prior to the event, where Porsche owners experience the special privilege of driving their Porsche sports cars around the GP circuit at speed. In addition to the 911 GT2 RS, seven vehicles commemorating the last 70 years of Porsche racing in Australia were on display in the Porschestraße (translation: Porsche street) situated next to the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia paddock, between Turn 1 and the Albert Park Lake. This display ranged from a 1951 Porsche 356 Cabriolet up to a 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. See below for full list and background on each display car. Test drive through a virtual reality experience Porschestraße also included the Australian-built Porsche In Motion experience, where enthusiasts had the opportunity to sit in the passenger seat of the iconic Porsche 911 and take it for a test drive through a virtual reality experience, discover the brand’s distinct sporting heritage and explore the latest model range on display.

VOLUME 52-452-4 - DECEMBER 2007 FROM THE EDITOR NANCY JAMAR Well, if you can’t have quantity, you can have quality, as shown by the two top entries for the cover of this issue of Velocity. We had requested photos, and received the marvelous submission shown below right from Don Matz, but were blown away by the painterly illustration submitted by club member Radu Muntean, who ended up taking away the honors. In is own words, this encapsulates the cover painting: “The premise: Since the reindeer decided to join the union and go on strike, Santa was left with no choice but to pull out the ‘German Sled.’ Mrs. Claus suggested that the misplacement of the trunk on the German sled might create a problem, but the old man would not listen. In the Trunk: Nicely wrapped presents, toys, Barbies and teddy bears, holding on for dear life, while out in front the “Racer” bear, sporting a helmet and a five point harness, is heaving a ball.” Our congratulations go out to a very talented club member, who in my estimation, delivered with a very nice gift for all our club members. You can find more of Radu’s art at his web site, www.octanegallery.com. You’ll also find ideas for gifts, large and small in our Holiday Gift Guide, where advertisers have given us some great hints on top gifts for the motor-minded among us. And be sure to read Bill Bodine’s letter from the president...some very newish stuff in there about next year’s racing schedule..
