The next chapter will examine server-based partitioning systems. DOS PARTITIONS The most commonly encountered partition system is the DOS-style partition. DOS partitions have been used with Intel IA32 hardware (i.e., i386 / x86) for many years, yet there is no official specification. There are many Microsoft and non-Microsoft documents that discuss the partitions, but there is no standard reference. In addition to there being no standard reference, there is also no standard name.
