Notes on Cassida Ferruginea and Cassida Mongolica in Japan, with Descriptions of Their Reproductive Systems (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Cassidinae)
Genus Vol. 24(3-4): 325-333 Wrocław, 28 XII 2013 Notes on Cassida ferruginea and Cassida mongolica in Japan, with descriptions of their reproductive systems (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Cassidinae) HARUKI SUENAGA Cleanpia 106, 3-14-33, Oimatsu-chô, Kurashiki-shi, Okayama Pref., 710-0826 Japan, e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT. Cassida ferruginea GOEZE is recorded from Japan for the first time. This species was previously misidentified and noted under name C. panzeri WEISE. Occurrence of Cassida mongolica BOHEMAN in Japan is confirmed based on new material. Male and female reproductive systems are redescribed for C. ferruginea and described for the first time for C. mongolica. Key words: entomology, faunistics, Chrysomelidae, Cassidinae, Cassida mongolica, Cassida ferruginea, Japan. INTRODUCTION CHÛJÔ (1934) was the first to comprehensively study Japanese and Taiwanese Cassidinae (s. str.); he listed 34 species. YASUTOMI (1952) listed 24 species of Cassidinae (s. str.) from Japan. KIMOTO (1966) revised Japanese Cassidinae and listed 27 species. KIMOTO (1994) treated records of C. mongolica from Japan as misidentification of C. fuscorufa, Thlaspida formosae as the synonym of T. biramosa, and listed 25 species from Japan. OTSUKA (1994) recorded C. mongolica from Japan again. BOROWIEC (1999) resurrected C. japana and C. crucifera from the synonym. KOMIYA (2002) described Notosacantha nishiyamai from Okinawa, Japan. Presently 29 species of Cassidinae (s. str.) are known from Japan. For a long time the male and female genitalia of Cassidinae have not been consi- dered in identifying species and in systematics. BORDY (1995a, b) and SEKERKA (2005, 2006) studied genital structures of Cassidinae, and the taxonomic and phylogenetic 326 HaRUkI SUeNaga importance of the male and female genitalia has been considered for many groups (BORDY & DOGUET 1987, BORDY 2000, BOROWIEC & Świetojańska 2001, Świetojańska 2001, BOROWIEC & SKUZA 2004, SASSI & BOROWIEC 2006, BOROWIEC & opalińska 2007, BOROWIEC & POMORSKA 2009). -

Received: 9 October 2020; Accepted: 28 October 2020; Published: 30 October 2020 Simple Summary: Several wood-associated insects are inadvertently introduced every year within wood-packaging materials used in international trade. These insects can cause impressive economic and ecological damage in the invaded environment. Thus, several countries use traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles at ports of entry and surrounding natural areas to intercept incoming exotic species soon after their arrival and thereby reduce the likelihood of their establishment. In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies. -
A Dél-Tiszántúl Annotált Állattani Bibliográfiájának Alapvetése
Crisicum 4. pp.431. _______________________________________________________________________________ A Dél-Tiszántúl annotált állattani bibliográfiájának alapvetése Kalivoda Béla Abstrackt Establishing the basis of the Annotated Zoological Bibliography of the South-Tiszántúl: The goal of this work was to initiate to collect the publications of the zoological data of the South- Tiszántúl (South-East Hungary, see on the maplet) namely the activity area of the Körös-Maros National Park Directorate. During the assembly of the bibliography my principal was the collection of zoological data. So the work contains publications of more or less accurate occurrence data. For the better usages sake the bibliography is annotated. Its items are provided with a code composed from the name of author(s), year of publishing and, if it is necessary, an additional letter code. Annotations contains these codes providing possibility of query by animal species, taxon and location of data. -
Coleoptera from the Middle-Upper Eocene European Ambers: Generic Composition, Zoogeography and Climatic Implications

ALEKSEEV Department of Zootechny, Kaliningrad State Technical University, Sovetsky Avenue 1. 236000, Kaliningrad, Russia. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The paper contains a review of coleopteran genera known from Baltic, Bitterfeld and Rovno amber localities. Altogether 420 genera (191 extinct and 229 extant) from 78 families are listed from these three Lagerstätten (as of 7 March 2017). The listed beetles were analyzed zoogeographically and distributional maps for 72 genera were compiled. One-quarter (56) of the genera that have survived since the Eocene have cosmopolitan ranges at present; 35 extant genera have been extripated from the Palaearctic since the Eocene. Approximately 40% of beetle genera from the middle-upper Eocene Eu- ropean ambers can be encountered in the wild in present-day Europe, while 5 of these genera are supposed to be European relict endemics originating in Fennosarmatia. The general similarity of the Baltic amber (s.l.) beetle assemblage to modern south Palaearctic fauna is the strongest, the Nearctic elements are more numerous in the middle-upper Eocene European ambers than the Oriental taxa. The simplified Mutual Climatic Range (MCR) method was used for palaeoclimate recon- struction based on fossil beetles. The coleopteran assemblage of Baltic amber is interpreted as indicative of warm temper- ate, humid, equable climate with reduced thermal seasonality [annual average temperatures range from +10–20˚C; mean of the coldest month temperatures around +10˚C; mean of the hottest month temperature around +20–24˚C; annual pre- cipitation around 750–1500 mm]. -

ENTOMOLOGISCHE BERICHTEN, DEEL 37, 1.VIII. 1977 115 Biezondere vangsten van Lepidoptera in Nederland door H. W. VAN DER WOLF ABSTRACT. — Records are given of Lepidoptera rare in the Netherlands. Metzneria metzneriella (Stainton) and Coleophora salineila (Stainton) are new to the Dutch fauna. -
