  • Pulmonary Tb Among Myanmar Migrants in Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand: a Problem Or Not for the Tb Control Program?
SOUTHEAST ASIAN J TROP MED PUBLIC HEALTH PULMONARY TB AMONG MYANMAR MIGRANTS IN SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE, THAILAND: A PROBLEM OR NOT FOR THE TB CONTROL PROGRAM? Ranee Wongkongdech1, Sompong Srisaenpang1 and Sasithorn Tungsawat2 1Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen; 2The Office of Disease Prevention and Control 6 Khon Kaen Province, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, Nonthaburi, Thailand Abstract. Most transnational migrant workers in Thailand are from Myanmar, a country with a high tuberculosis prevalence. We investigated the prevalence of suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) among Myanmar migrants in communi- ties of Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand. Symptom screening for those with a productive cough of more than 2 weeks was conducted by face-to-face home interviews with 4,874 participants aged at least 15 years. Most subjects (75%) were aged 15-34 years (75%), 52% were male and 60% were mar- ried. Subjects typically lived with fellow nationals in crowded, poorly ventilated apartments or row houses. Ten subjects had suspected TB, giving a prevalence rate of 0.2%. Ninety-seven percent were working in Thailand legally but 80% had no health insurance. None had sought community health services; all preferred self- medication and private clinics due to stigma associated with TB, medication costs and health center waiting times. Providing information about health insurance and introducing TB prevention and control in this group should be considered. Further studies are needed to develop a TB control program and communicable disease surveillance among migrant communities, in Thailand. Biodiversity Data Journal 2: e1019. doi: 10.3897/BDJ.2.e1019 Abstract The flora of Tropical Asia is among the richest in the world, yet the actual diversity is estimated to be much higher than previously reported. Myanmar and Thailand are adjacent countries that together occupy more than the half the area of continental Tropical Asia. This geographic area is diverse ecologically, ranging from cool-temperate to tropical climates, and includes from coast, rainforests and high mountain elevations. An updated checklist of aquatic plants, which includes 78 species in 44 genera from 24 families, are presented based on floristic works. This number includes seven species, that have never been listed in the previous floras and checklists. The species (excluding non-indigenous taxa) were categorized by five geographic groups with the exception of to reflect the rich diversity of the countries' floras. RSU International Research Conference 2021 https://rsucon.rsu.ac.th/proceedings 30 APRIL 2021 Do Dairy Cooperatives perform their Own Business with the Technical Efficiency?: The Evidence from Dairy Cooperatives in Nakhon Ratchasima Province Area, Thailand. Anucha Wittayakorn-Puripunpinyoo School of Agriculture and Cooperative, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Nonthaburi, Thailand E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Since 1962, when the first dairy farming in Thailand has been started, Thai dairy farmers have adopted dairy farms as their career of living. They gathered themselves as a dairy cooperative for business operation. Until now, dairy cooperatives have never known that they performed their own business with technical efficiency or not. In this paper, the researcher attempted to answer this question with the research objective to analyze the technical efficiency of dairy cooperatives in the Nakhon Ratchasima province area. This research focused on quantitative analysis. Times-series and cross-sectional data were collected from the cooperative auditing department database from 10 dairy cooperatives from 2008 to 2020. 130 observations were selected, and data analysis was applied to the panel data econometrics model to analyze the dairy cooperatives’ technical efficiency. The findings found that the overall average of 10 dairy cooperatives in the Nakhon Ratchasima province area obtained a very high performance of technical efficiency score of 0.98 whereas 2 out of 10 dairy cooperatives performed their own business with their outstanding technical efficiency score of 1.000 and 1.000, respectively. There is a tendency to increase the number of dairy farmers in Nakhon Ratchasima province, which indicates that the production of raw milk by dairy cooperatives tends to increase in response to the increased demand for milk and dairy products of domestic consumption.

The method used in this research is the qualitative research. The research instrument used historical methods by collecting information from primary and secondary sources, then to analysis process. The research discovered the pattern of trade between Cambodia and Siam that started to be affected when borders were established. Since Cambodia was under French’s rule as one of French’s nation, France tried to delimit and demarcate the boundary lines which divided the community that once cohabitated into a community under new nation state. In each area, traditions, rules and laws are different, but people lived along the border continued to bring their goods to exchange for their livings. This habit is still continuing, even the living communities are divided into different countries. For such reason, it was the source of "Border trade” in western concept. The Thai-Cambodian border’s trade during that period under the French protectorate of Cambodia was effected because of the rules and law which illustrated the sovereignty of the land.
