ENVIRONMENT & TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TRAFFIC NEWS Saturday 19th August 2017 to Friday 25th August 2017 The following is a summary of road works and temporary road closures for the above dates which may cause disruption to traffic or inconvenience to the public. **** *** ** TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES Ironman 70.3 Dublin Triathlon Ironman Ltd. intends to close the following roads to facilitate the Ironman 70.3 Dublin Triathlon 2017: The Ironman 70.3 Triathlon will involve a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle and 13.1 mile run. The swim will take place early morning in Scotsman’s Bay, Dún Laoghaire, followed by a cycle from Dún Laoghaire via Coast Road, East Link Bridge and Dublin City North Quays, to Chapelizod, Lower Road (Strawberry Beds), Barnhill Cross Road (via Stanford Hill), Westmanstown Road, Leixlip, Moyglare Road, Kilcock, R125, R156, Kennedy Road, Dunboyne, Navan Road, Station Road, Tinker’s Hill, Lower Road (Strawberry Beds) before entering the Phoenix Park at Knockmaroon Gate entrance. The run will then take place in the Phoenix Park. Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council, Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, Meath County Council and Kildare County Council intend to make orders authorising the temporary closure of the following roads to facilitate the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon event which will take place on Sunday 20th August 2017: In the administrative area of Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council: Section A, August 19th 2017 07:00 – 17:00 hours Otranto Place/ Marine Parade from its junction with Sandycove Avenue West to its junction with Marine Avenue . 1 Section B, August 20th 2017 04:00 – 10:00 hours Windsor Terrace, Newtownsmith, Marine Parade, Otranto Place, Sandycove Avenue West and Sandycove Point from 04.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs on Sunday 20th August, 2017. Sandycove Avenue West from its junction with R831 Marine Parade to its junction with Sandycove Point. Section C, August 20th 2017 06:30 – 09:45 hours R831 Newtownsmith over its full length. Windsor Terrace R118 Queen’s Road over its full length. N31 Crofton Road over its full length. N31Old Dunleary Road over its full length. Maynooth/ Dunboyne Road (R157) from its junction with L1014 at Old Carton to the Meath County boundary at Old Carton. Section 2 (8:00am to 11:45am) Kilcock/ Dunshauglin Road (R125) from Meath County boundary at 'County Meath Bridge' to its junction with R148 (Dublin Road) at Kilcock square. In the Phoenix Park (Property of the Commissioners of Public Works) Roads to be closed to vehicular traffic and period of closure: Sunday 20th August from 06:30hrs to 17:00hrs Furze Road, Acres Road, Old Lamp Road, Ordnance Survey Road, Whites Road, Upper Glen Road, Knockmaroon Road and Visitor Centre Road access. Chesterfield Avenue from Mountjoy Roundabout to Phoenix the normal closure will apply from 20:00hrs on Friday 18th August until 21:00hrs on Sunday 20th August (one hour later than normal on Sunday) 3 Gates to be closed Sunday 20th August Knockmaroon Gate from 06:30hrs to 17:00hrs Chapelizod Gate from 06:30hrs to 17:00hrs Islandbridge Gate from 06.30hrs to 10.30hrs and two way access / egress after 10:30hrs until 17:00hrs Main Gate restricted access between 06:30hrs and 10:30hrs Traffic will be halted or diverted at the following locations: Gough Roundabout to North Road or Wellington Road (Access to Chesterfield Avenue for Zoo and sporting facilities only) Wellington Road & Military Road for access to St Mary’s Hospital and Cara Cheshire Home Respective Route diversion details are available on www.dlrcoco.ie, www.dublincity.ie, www.fingalcoco.ie, www.meathcoco.ie www.kildarecoco.ie and www.opw.ie. Traffic Management Plan Traffic diversions in Dublin City will involve: Traffic from Dun Laoghaire wishing to access Dublin City Centre, will be diverted via Stillorgan Road and Donnybrook. Traffic diversions will vary as the race proceeds. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Traffic on Blackhall Place wishing to travel on Arbour Hill will be diverted via Stoneybatter – Manor Place – Mount Temple Road - Ard Rí Road. Traffic on Arbour Hill wishing to travel to Stoneybatter will be diverted via Ard Rí Road. – Mount Temple Road – Manor Place. Pedestrian and local access to be maintained.
