Ferrari’s Anniversary Celebrations get underway With re-enactment of 125 S driving through the Maranello gates Maranello (Italy), 10 March 2017 – On March 12 1947, Enzo Ferrari fired up the 125 S, the first car to bear his name. That test-drive on the streets of Maranello marked the start of modern Ferrari history. The then-modest factory quickly grew into one of the great internationally-renowned Made in Italy icons. Now, exactly 70 years later, on March 12 2017, Ferrari launches its official celebrations for this milestone anniversary. To coincide with the official start of the celebrations and to commemorate the events of 70 years ago, Ferrari is also releasing a special video featuring a re- enactment of the first 12-cylinder to sport the Cavallino Rampante on its bonnet, the 125 S, driving through the factory gates on Via Abetone Inferiore and, in doing so, symbolically passing the baton of the Ferrari legacy to the LaFerrari Aperta. 125 S, the first Ferrari This was the first car to sport the Ferrari badge. Its 12-cylinder engine, vital to powerful performance, was designed by Gioacchino Colombo with Giuseppe Busso and Luigi Bazzi also contributing to the project. On March 12 1947, the 125 S, still an unbodied steel rolling chassis, roared to life for the first time and the great Ferrari adventure began. Two months later, on May 11 1947, the car made its track debut at the Piacenza Circuit. At the wheel of the 125 S (the S referring to its sports car-type bodywork) was Franco Cortese.

  • Dave Philpot's Fiat Report
THE MORGAN WITH THE THOROUGHBRED ENGINE? Between 1981 and ’87 Morgan produced a little over two hundred cars fitted with the FIAT twin cam engine. This engine is also known as the Lampredi twin cam after the man responsible for its design and engineering, Aurelio Lampredi [1917-89]. The form in which it was specified by Morgan and how it came to be used will be explained later, but first a look at its background. Conception. To start we go back to what we now know as Formula 1, post World War II. The Formula was for 1,5 litre supercharged or 4,5 litre naturally aspirated cars and the cars used were essentially of pre-war design, as was the formula they raced under from 1946. The dominant car was the Alfa Romeo 158/159 Alfetta, winning 37 out of 41 starts in Grand Prix races and 10 out of 13 starts in Formula 1 races. The Alfa was powered by a supercharged straight eight of 1500cc, which in its final form, unbelievably developed well over 400 bhp at 9300 rpm. This came at a price in terms of fuel consumption, the car barely covering half a kilometre on a litre of fuel. Its success was also due in some part to having Giuseppe Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio on the team. Alfa withdrew from racing at the end of the 1951 season. The second piece of this jigsaw concerns signor Enzo Anseimo Ferrari who drove for Alfa and for a while managed their racing division. He left Alfa in 1937 and started his own company making mainly racing components for other manufacturers, being prevented under a contract with Alfa to build complete cars.

My special thanks go to Count Leopold Lippens, mayor of the town and president of the Zoute Automobile Club, the town of Knokke-Heist and all of its officials and the organisers of the Zoute Grand Prix. We have sourced an exciting and varied selection of automobilia and collectors’ motor cars, with a particularly strong accent on quality rather than quantity and with numerous lots offered without reserve allowing buyers not vendors to determine the current market correct values. Whether you are an experienced bidder wishing to enhance your collection or a first time buyer, I am confident that we offer something that will appeal to you – in addition where else in the world can you one day tell your grandchildren that you bid on and hopefully purchased the car they are driving in a spectacular tent on a beach! In our commitment to holding this sixth sale here in Belgium’s most prestigious seaside resort we very much wish to make a statement of our belief in the success of the five previous editions and in continuing the construction of a long and rewarding partnership with the above, as well as the event partners and sponsors over the coming years and share with them a common goal of providing another rewarding experience with the very best service.
