    Bedford Borough School Sport Partnerships Autumn 2016 Newsletter Autumn Highlights: Bedfordshire Wins National Level 1 Award at School Games 10 competitions delivered. Organiser Summit 2016 1132 pupils have taken part. 148 Young Leaders have Bedfordshire were awarded the prestigious Level 3 School Games ‘Leading the Way’ volunteered 342 hours. award, for delivering high quality inclusive School Games Competitions at the recent Level 2 th School Games National Summit. The event which took place on Thursday 10 November in Telford was attended by 452 School Games Organisers and culminated 3940 pupils have participated. with the Youth Sport Trust annual awards, which celebrated the achievements of all 64 competitions were delivered across 13 sports. those involved in the delivery of the School Games and Change for Life programmes. 175 Young Leaders have volunteered 793 hours. The recognition of the Level 3 award highlights the important work which is undertaken 7 school have provided Young Leaders. by the Bedfordshire and Luton Physical Education and School Sport Strategic Group and the Local Organising Committee both of which are chaired by David Bailey, Head of Level 3 School at Biddenham International School and Sports College, as well as the 6 School 12 competitions.     FLAG INSTITUTE WILLIAM CRAMPTON LIBRARY INDEX TO FLAGMASTER 1-161 FLAG INSTITUTE BULLETIN HERALDRY SOCIETY FLAG SECTION NEWSLETTER The journal Flagmaster was first published by the newly founded Flag Institute in 1971. It appeared more or less quarterly from Issue 001-159 (2019), then twice-yearly from Issue 160 (2020). Flagmaster succeeded the Heraldry Society Flag Section Newsletter (4 issues - Spring 1969 to Winter 1970) and was briefly replaced in 1974/5 by the Flag Institute Bulletin. The Bulletin consisted of several sections - Civic Flags, Correspondence, Flag Institute News, Military Flags, New Books, New Flags, Political Changes - each paginated separately and not necessarily included in every issue. After publication ceased, the five issues of the Bulletin were renumbered retrospectively as Flagmaster Issues 19-23. Flagmaster then resumed publication at Issue 24. Issues of Flagmaster are numbered in bold. Issues of the Flag Institute Bulletin are prefixed FIB. Issues of the Heraldry Society Flag Section Newsletter are prefixed HS.     BEDFORDSHIRE GC RECORDER AUTUMN 2016 Club News Competition results 125th Anniversary Events Section Reports Board Report Wildlife on the Course Message from the Captain As October draws to a close there seems just enough time to draw breath and reflect on an incredibly busy summer and indeed a seminal year for the Club. Even as a fairly regular attendee at most competitions it has still come as a surprise to me just how much golf the role of Captain seems to attract! There has been a full programme of Club Matches and Mixed Matches in addition to the many and varied internal competitions, all of which have been thoroughly enjoyable as well as providing many entertaining moments. My favourite must be our esteemed Lady Captain informing me at our first Mixed Match, very emphatically, that she does NOT do bunkers. Sadly, this stern ‘advice’ had gone out of the window within 3 holes…… Although the full summer programme of competitions is covered in much more detail elsewhere, two personal highlights stand out for me; firstly, it was a pleasure to present the Veteran’s Plate to such a stalwart of the Club (as well as being my late Dad’s best friend at the club) – Wilf Mannion. He goes to show that this game is for all ages (and handicaps!). Secondly, presenting the Bob Dunbar Trophy to Martin Allen (now a two-time winner) and our very own VC John Simpson was a distinct pleasure – albeit a bittersweet one since my partner Simon Hollands and I were pipped by one shot! The other highlights over the summer were equally worthy of warm memories; firstly, the 125th Ball at the beginning of September was a magnificent way to celebrate such an historic milestone.
